I am trying to find the birth record of Anders Thorssen, born 26 Oct 1761 in Sandsæver, Buskerud, Norway. I am having trouble recognizing the dates in the records from that period. Hopefully someone can tell me how to tell the dates in these records. Thanks to anyone who can help me.

There was no Anders Thorsen Hillestad b.1761 but an Anders Thoresen Kløvstad bap. July. 26. 1761, father Thore Syversen Kløvstad
Perhaps he changed to Hillestad later.

Hillstad was my error. I apologize for my mistake. I will go back into the archives and see if I can figure out how to recognize the dates. Thank you for the information.

The family also lived on farm Berg and on farm Rokstad-eie 1801, but they also lived on following farms; Lande, Hillestad and Laugerud.

Kåre - Yes that is the family. I did find them in the 1801 census. So now I will try to find his actual birth record. I was just checking the archives and couldn't find Hedenstad parish for 1761. Could it be listed in Sandsæver.? I was looking in that register earlier but I can't read the dates.

Sandsvær is correct.
He was bap. in Hed: (Hedenstad) Dom 10 past Trin (July 26) and his mother was introdused to the congregation on Dom. 16. p. Trin (Sept. 6)
Its more fun to find him without help

Here is the records link

I found the record. Thank you. The Dom. 16. p. Trin is what helped me. I was looking for a date. What does that Dom. 16. p. Trin mean? As for finding out what happened to Anders, Berthe and children, I would greatly appreciate any help you can give me. Just giving me hints helps. Thanks so much.

I can search for it tomorrow, its midnight in Norway.
I have made some corr. reg the Trinitates above, I did not read it carefully enough.
Dom. (Dominica) in Latin for Sunday and Trin. (Trinitates) is Latin for Pentecost, Dom 16. p. Trin is the 16. Sunday after Pentecost .

In the 1950s I lived on a small farm between Dal and Hillestad

For the era that you are interested in , you need the Dansk kalender. Click on the link below and go to 1761. You will see the date given for Trinitas. For 1761 it is May 17. Count 10 Sundays past May 17 and you come to July 26 and 16 Sundays past May 17 gives you Sept 6.

Another useful link about the Gregorian Calender.

lyndal40 - thank you for the information. I just couldn't figure out how to tell the date something happened. This is the first time I have seen this. The other records I have found always had dates I could understand. Thanks again.
