Can anyone tell me how to get a relative's death certificate who died in Norway (in 1966)? I would like to get one with the cause of death. (I am not talking about the parish records.)

Thank you.

After a patient`s death it`s only next of a kin who have access to records unless "special reasons" speak against it, Law on patient rights § 5-1.

Kċre,
Thank you for your prompt response.
I want the death certificate of my grandmother. Her husband and all of her children are deceased. As one of her grandchildren, would I be considered next of kin and eligible to get the certificate of death? Do you know who I would contact?

Thank you.

Hi JJohnson, if you'll tell Kċre where your grandmother died, might help. At least in the USA, the organization to contact re a death certificate would vary depending on location.

Thank you, JaneC.,

Oops, I guess I thought in Norway, the government would control it centrally and it would be handled by an agency or department. Sorry about that.
My grandmother passed away in Oslo, Norway, in 1966. I hope that is more helpful to Kċre.

Thank you.

You are welcome - but I also don't know the ropes. I was just guessing. In general, I get the impression that more information is more helpful, in genealogy searches. I hope you are able to order a copy of the certificate.

Hi.
Its the doctor who print the death certificate and cause of death which, in Oslo, he sends to Oslo Byfogdembete with e-mail adress at the bottom line.

I hope you can get all the help you need from them.

Good luck

Kċre,

Thank you very much for the link --- I would not have found it on my own.
