Truls Hermundsens first wife was Britha Hermundsdatter - they were parents of Elling Trulsen (Oct 14 1821), Mari Trulsdatter (Dec 12 1829) and Lars Trulsen (July 29 1832).

The Brita/Betsey who married Lars A. Knudtson is consistently shown in USA records as born about 1849.

Found an online family tree that gives her father as Herman Trulsen, son of Truls Hermondsson Mael (born 1796 Balestrand, Sogn og Fjordane, Norway) and (died 1858 in Wisconsin, USA) and Britha Hermundsdatter Langeteig
(b 1797 in Langeteig, Balestrand, Sogn og Fjordane, Norway) (died 1 jun 1830 in Mael, Balestrand, Sogn og Fjordane, Norway).

Herman/Hermund b 15 Oct 1825 in Balestrand, Sogn og Fjordane, Norway. Family tree says Herman married Anna Monsdatter b 1821.

The family tree says their daughter Betsy Brita Hermundsdatter Trulsen was born 5 May 1849 in Mael, Sogn og Fjordane, Norway, married Lars A Knudtson, and died 04 Feb 1919 in Kensett, Worth, Iowa.

In the 1900 US census, Betsey (wife of Lars A Knudtson) is listed as born May 1849.

If this is correct, and Truls has a son Hermund, and Hermund has a daughter Brita (future wife of Lars A Knudtson), then the Brita we found immigrating is the aunt to Lars's Brita.

That's enough from me johnsonlori94 - until we hear from you, with confirmation we are looking at your family (I hope so!) and with whatever other input you can make into matching the Iowa folks and the Norway folks.

All best, Jane

You are welcome! Are you saying that the records for the family in Iowa do indeed refer to your family? Note: Brithe/Betsey's birth record is not yet posted.

Sorry for posting a wrong family.

Brithes mother Anna Monsdatter was born Aug 13 1821, #63 - her parents Mons Monsen, Langeteig and Kari Christophersdatter.

Hermund Truelsen and Anna Monsdatters first child Kari Hermundsdatter was an "uægte" child, born July 27 1846, Juli 27.

The parents were married Oct 20 1846, #24.

Their 3rd daughter Anna Hermundsdatter, born Jan 7 1851, #2.

Baptismal record for Brithe not found. (maybe not baptized in church)

Thanks eibache!
johnsonlori94, you understand about the family we first posted (just checking):
Truls is the paternal grandfather of your Betsey/Brithe (her father is Hermund and Hermund's father is Truls),
Hermund was the son of Truls's first wife, who died.
Truls emigrated with his second wife,
and with
son Elling, a full brother to Hermund
and with Hermund's half siblings

A discussion of this family here:
http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/NORWAY/2011-11/1321417372

"According to the Balestrand bygdebok (Volume 1 ættesoge, by Laberg, Hoprekstad, Lunden, Urtegard) Kvalheim gard #12, pages 81-83, Kristoffer Jensson Lunden from Sogndal got Kvalheim in 1791 and had it until he died in 1810. His widow and their children then went to Sogndal.

According to the Balestrand bygdebok (Volume 11 gards-og ættesoge, by Urtegard) Kvalheim gard #15, pages 487-502, Kristoffer Jensson, age 53, and his wife, Kari Persdtr., age 40, were on bruk 1 in 1801, with their 5 children ages 4-12 (this is obviously from the 1801 census.... Kristoffer had bought Kvalheim in 1791 and had it until 1810."

and also,
"Christopher Jensson Lunden (1745-1810) was born in Sogndal County, Norway, as the oldest son of Jens Johnson Lunden (1720-1794) and his wife Anna Christophersdotter (1723-1798), from the farm Skagen in Luster Coiunty, Norway. Anna in turn was the daughter of Christopher Larsson Skagen (1689-1739), originally from the farm Skildeim in Luster County, and Anna Catherine Pedersdotter (1682-1732), from the farm Eide in Luster County, both parts of old prominent families in the area!"

"Kvalheim (Qvalem in 1801) is situated in Tjugum sub-parish, Leganger (Leikanger)."
