A candidate for you. In spite of the spelling it is likely the same Hans as above. He is going to Castlewood South Dakota. Going to a sister.

Here is a list of all people with a last name containing Svoldal. Note the three using the Thorbjørns name. That would be Synnove, Andreas and your Hans. They could be brothers and sister and Synnove would be the sister in South Dakota that Hans mentioned he was going to in his passenger manifest. Put Svoldal in the blank for Ettername.

One thing a little out of place is that the records have a Andreas Svoldal going to America in 1897, yet the 1900 Norwegian Census shows a Andreas Svoldal living with his parents. Records shown above. Did he go and then return shortly thereafter or are we dealing with two people? |

Here is the arrival of Synnøve Thorbjørnsdatter Svoldal into New York. The manifest states that she is travelling to Brookings. I assmume that would be Brookings South Dakota.

Most likely this is Synnøve in the 1900 US Census. Note that her husband is named Helge Dahl and not Halvor that Andreas mentioned in his manifest.
