Here is Emmerense Olson in the 1905 South Dakota census, identified as widowed male (!) and that she came to US in 1858:

So siver olson and emerensa olson are possibly johns parents? Im very new to genealogy and am trying to follow. I can't believe the outpouring of help and greatly appreciate all of the assistance!

All possibilities are on the table. We are exploring what sort of connections there might be due to the historical tale.

Way cool, two Johannes' in the family--the other John Severson who married Betsy Neshiem is on the next census page after John b. 1849 in the 1900 census. No Fred in his family

Some information about the Johannes Ordahl family. May be connected in some way with the Seversen/Siversen family. Both are from Jølster, Sogn og Fjordane. Here is the family of Johannes Ordal arriving in 1880.
