I have come to a stop for Walter G. Thompson widower, with son Ernest A. Thompson after the 1920 census, living in Denver. Tried the 1930 census for residences in Colorado and Minnesota- what is the directive when folks don' show up in US Federal or state census? Thanks so much Diane |

Do you have information that he was still alive until 1930? Perhaps he was listed with a different name spelling or just his initials... perhaps he wasn't in the country... the fact that some people are missed in every census is in the news after each one I can remember. I'm sure the same was true in the early 1900s.
There won't be a 'directive'. This is just when you have to investigate like Sherlock Holmes. You have to start thinking of the possibilities and what and where some documentation might still exist. Then you go about finding it. This is genealogy research. |

Here is a candidate for Walter G Thompson in the 1930 US Census. The birth year is a little off making him hard to find. Where the rest of the family is a question. Living at 1304 Walnut Street.

Dear Norway Heritage, Thank you for the last post response-yes I am still wondering about Walter G. Thompson, my great grandfather-I did find a clipping from the Rocky Mountain News that a Walter G. Thompson was hit by a car and killed in June of 1930. So I don't know if the William G. Thompson is the same Also, still cannot find his eldest son Ernest A., there is no census after 1920 containing Ernest even though he is on the 1920 census with Walter G.- Any suggestions, let me know- thanks so much, Diane |

Did you get Walter's death certificate from Colorado? Perhaps Ernest was the informant? |
