Looking to find when my dads uncle Ernst Rosså Svendsen b september 5th 1920 emigrated to America,and hopefully find their adress where they kived and find some info on his service in the Norwegian and the American Merchant marine,he settled in Brooklyn i was told. Thanks

This bit of information on an Ernest Svendsen seems to correlate with post by Jackie and also gives his birth place. Also the birth place of Karmoy fits the Stavanger of the person travelling in 1947.

Probably the same person as all of those posted above with an address and a middle initial that also matches. Birth date matches that found by Jackie but not the one you provided. How certain are you of the birth month of September.

Ancestry.com has him listed as a Crew Member on at least seven voyages, either as Ernest Svendsen or as Ernest R Svendsen. Here is on example.

You might find this obit interesting. It is of a Roy Svendsen, Father is a deceased Ernest Svendsen and mothe is Harriet Sandvik Svendsen of Griggstown.

If you search Harriet Sandvik born about 1923 in the 1940 US Census, only person is found. Looking at the 1930 US Census for this family, the Helen listed below is actually the father and is named Helger.

Something of a gap between 1947 and 1956.
