Hi - I am looking for information on my grandmother who was baptised in Borgund parish in April 1878. Her mother's name was given as Ingeborg Martinusdatter and it appears that Olive was illegitimate but they do give a father's name, Ole Gundersen. I have no further information except it appears that under the name Ingeborg Rasmussen Ingeborg got married in about 1883 to Knud Larsen in Borgund parish. I was wondering why her name was given as Rasmussen on this and also if Olivie had siblings. She took the name of the farm Ostrem as her maiden name and Olivie and her husband Lars Hansen Rovold immigrated with two small children to US in about 1900. I can not find more information on my great grandparents ie Ole Gundersen's parents and Ingeborg Martinusdatter's parents. Ostrem appears to be a farm name where both Ingeborg and Olivie lived, but Ole Gundersen was from Dybvik parish. Whether he was the real father or not I do not know, he was 52 and Ingeborg was 34 when Olivie was baptized. More than one witness had the last name of Rasmusdatter. If anyone out there has a common ancestor I would love to hear from you.

An interesting discussion of this family at http://www.emblemsbygda.com

See the section called "Amerikafart." Text is Norwegian, which I don't speak, but I think it says Lars and Olivia had a baby daughter Lilly who was left in Norway with her grandparents.

1910 census in Borgund, Lilly Larsdatter is listed as born 27 July 1903.

Olivie did have at least one half-sibling, Kornelia Petrine born 1884. Kornelia emigrated and lived in North Dakota, then Minnesota. Need to research whereabouts of Lars and Olivie, but seemingly Kornelia and husband Arne O Hagen lived awhile in the same place. Their mother Ingeborg died in 1893 and Knud remarried.

From Norwegian Digital Archives:

Knud Larsen Østrem and Ingeborg Martinusdatter had a daughter born at Borgund in Borgund, Møre og Romsdal, Norway
Kornelia Petrine
born 15 April 1884 in Borgund.
transcribed birth record
Møre og Romsdal fylke, Borgund i Borgund, Ministerialbok nr. 528A12I (1880-1920), Fødte og døpte 1884, side 87.

Original birth record

On 09 April 1899 Kornelia Petrine Østrem was confirmed in Ålesund.
transcribed

In 1900 census Kornelia østrem is living and working as a servant in Borgund.

Found with Google:

An online obituary for Lila Doris Hagen (married name Holthusen) lists her parents as Kornelia Petrine Ostrem and Arne O. Hagen. Lila was born 1929 in Minnesota (Beltrami county) and grew up in Northwood and rural Grygla (Minnesota) area. She died 2012 in Thief River Falls, Pennington, Minnesota.
obit

1940 US Census
Township 157, Range 38, Beltrami county, Minnesota
Arne Hagen 62
Nelly Hagen 56 born 1884 Norway ----------- Kornelia (Olivie's half sister)
Oscar Hagen 29 born North Dakota
Alma Hagen 24 born North Dakota
Otto Hagen 22 born Minnesota
Melvin Hagen 19 born Minnesota
Benora Hagen 17 born Minnesota
Norris Hagen 13 born Minnesota
Lila Hagen 11 born Minnesota

From Minnesota Historical Society death index:

Arne O Hagen died 08 November 1945 Pennington county, Minnesota

Kornelia Petrine Hagen
Born 15 April 1884
Died 31 January 1985 in Pennington County, Minnesota, USA
Mother's maiden name: Martinusdtr

Kornelia would be Olivia's half sister.

An online obit says Alma Hagen married Obert Svenpladsen. She was born 19 April 1915 in Maryville, North Dakota and died 2012 in Franklin, Tennessee. Obit names her sons. link

Miranda Hagen Skaaren is another child of Kornelia.

1940 US census
Township 157, Range 38, Beltrami, Minnesota
Jesse Skaaren 29
Miranda Skaaren 21

Find a Grave says Jesse died in 1993, buried at Greenwood in Thief River Falls. His sister Marie Skaaren Omlid died 2008; her obit says her sister-in-law Miranda Hagen Skaaren survives.

Obits name Benora Hagen Falk and other sibs, who can be further checked if contact with the family is wanted.

Only one Ole Gundersen looks probable for Olivie's father (age 52, a widower, when she was born in 1878). In 1865 in Borgund he is 41, wife Laurentse Knudsdatter 41, son Peter Petersen age 4 and Nils Olsen age 1. More research needed. Dybvig is in Borgund. (Although I do not know why it was said that Ole came from Dybvig?)
1865 on Vaagnæs

Marriage for Ole Severin Gundersen and Laurentse Knudsdr
24 Jun 1864 in Borgund - on Family Search

Same marriage, in the churchbook:
Ole Severin Ingebrigt Gundersen, age 38
and
(widow?) Laurentze Knudsdatter, age 39
24 June 1864
Møre og Romsdal fylke, Borgund, Ministerialbok nr. 528A09 (1858-1864), Ekteviede 1864, side 162.

Children for Ole and Laurentze:
Niels Martinus born 04 Feb 1865
Emma Severine born 17 Aug 1867

Another marriage for Ole, to Hansine Gulliksdr.
Ole Severin Ingebrigt Gundersen, age 52
Father Gunder Johnsen
Oct 1878
handwritten
Møre og Romsdal fylke, Borgund i Borgund, Klokkerbok nr. 528C09 (1864-1880), Ekteviede 1878, side 251.

Here on GENI is a family tree that includes Ole Severin Ingebrigt Gundersen Vaagnes, and according to the tree he is the son of Gunder Johnsen Næss and Maren Kirstine Pedersdotter Wegsund, and he was born 1825 at Vegsundvaag, Ålesund, Møre og Romsdal, Norway.
GENI tree

Tree includes a photo of Emma, who would be a half-sister to Olivie, if this Ole Gundersen is Olivie's father.

Hard to prove Olivie's father's identity, but the above man looks a lot like him.

When Peter Karolus Pedersen was baptized, his father Peder Pedersen was dead.
In 1865 Laurentse was married again and had a son Nils with Ole Gundersen, they were living at Waagnæs.
