Great.
I think the comment that Ole was from Dybvig is just a mistake based on the use of that farm name by some of Oivie's baptismal godparents. |

Thank you everyone for all of your research.k Yes Lilly was left behind because she had a birth defect one of her arms only came to above the elbow. Olivie was pregnant with Lilly when her husband left for Norht America so Olivie followed without the baby as it turned out but with their other two toddlers Hans and Ingeborg. She had a total of thirteen children including a set of ffraternal twins. Three were born in Norway, some in the states and some more in Canada. They moved from South Dakota to Tribune Saskatchewan and later moved from there to the ELdersley area of Saskatchewan where she died. Three of her children died, Mina at 15, Oscar at 2 and Ingeborg at about 22 years of age. My dad was the youngest, he was twenty when she died, he did not know that his mother was illegitimate that's for sure and he always said her last name was Ostrem. Now there is nobody alive here to ask so I am trying to put the pieces together as I think my grandmother had a challenging life. She was very religious and a hard worker. She was basically pregnant most of the time for 22 years and had lots of hardships. Although apparently she never complained and she cried a bit every day for Lilly. Lilly came 21 years later, none to happy to meet a bunch of strangets on the bald prairie, sad to leave the only family she had ever known back in Norway. She married and had two girls and spent the rest of her life in Saskatechewan Canada and died a good old age. o Again thank you - lots of information to follow up on - I admire this grandmother I have never met and would like to know her history. The only other info I have is that she worked in the knitting store in Aalesund =That's all we started out with. |

Thank you for the research - yes there is a connection to Rasmussen or Rasmusdatter as two were witnesses at Olivie's baptism as well. quote: Originally posted by lyndal40

All of these answers have been so helpful for me and by accident I discovered the Rasmus connection - Ingeborg's step father - and at least one of the Rasmusdatters on the witness list was her sister (Half)

I can see your interest - it's always nice if witnesses / sponsors are family, as it helps confirm identities.
