Yes, could be a problem with transcription. I searched as well. Ancestry.com allows wildcards in the search (*) but that didn't help. In 1918 he lived in Michigan but registered for the draft in Wisconsin. At that time he is saying he is married to Regina. Later, he's single. Could divorce papers in Norway be found?
His death record can be ordered. If he remarried after 1918 and had a child/children (which seems unlikely) one of them may have been the informant on his death record. Death record will also tell cause of death and burial place. If burial site known, We can put in a request to Find a Grave volunteers for photo of his monument (if one exists). Death records usually cost under $20 US. Might be worth it...
Washington State Digital Archives has a Harold Strand married a Winifred in 1942 (Winifred Watson, if memory serves). Need to seek further to figure out which Harold Strand it was (as you said, there were several.) |
