According to the family tree above, this would be Aagot's family in 1910 (she is not with them): http://digitalarkivet.arkivverket.no/en-gb/ft/person/pf01036530000901

Thank you guys so so much for putting the pieces together for me! Is there any way to see if he got married and had kids?
And is there a way to get a marrige certificate and his birthcetificate?

Perhaps another way to get to a marriage certificate.
Hakon Hansen in the New York, New York, Marriage Index 1866-1937 Name: Hakon Hansen Gender: Male Marriage Date: 8 Aug 1925 Marriage Place: Kings, New York, USA Certificate Number: 12527 Purchase Certificate

Same strategy for a death certificate.
Haakon Hansen in the New York, New York, Death Index, 1862-1948 Name: Haakon Hansen Birth Year: abt 1896 Age: 44 Death Date: 13 Feb 1940 Death Place: Kings, New York, USA Certificate Number: 3606 Purchase Certificate
This might be simpler. In the marriage certificate, it looks like you might need the brides maiden name.

This is maybe more than you want to know about the friend of Haakon but here is more. Here is the marriage of Selmer.

Thora Hardis Andersen in the U.S. Passport Applications, 1795-1925 Name: Thora Hardis Andersen Birth Date: 2 May 1896 Birth Place: Holt, Norway Age: 27 Gender: Female Passport Issue Date: 21 Apr 1924 Passport Includes a Photo: Yes Residence: Brooklyn, New York Spouse Name: Anders Selmer Andersen Spouse Birth Place: Norway |

You should look for Haakon in the "old fulton" site that Jane mentioned earlier. There is a notice from 1929 including both Haakon Hansen and a Marta Gulbranson in a Brooklyn paper. I couldn't get the image to load on my machine so I was unable to link to the article but perhaps you might if your computer is newer than mine.
Here is the couple in the 1940 census, names are spelled rather badly: https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KQR4-2WB
He had to have died after 1942 since he was in the old man draft of that year. The Haakon who died in 1940's parents are Nila (probably Nils) Hansen and Certen Jorgenson, this doesn't match who you know are your Haakon's parents or does it?

I sent an email to both of the cemeteries that he may be laying at! What usually happened to a persons belonings(documents) when they died back then? He had 3 sons in Norway, is it possible that it got sent to them?
And is there a way to find out Martas maiden name? Can any of the archives in Norway have any information about Haakon after he left Norway or is all the information in a New York archive?
Thank you all for pitching in! |

If you are asking about his estate settlement (skifte) those records are usually maintained by the county (for example Kings, Richmond, etc)in which a person resided, if there are any.
If there is any wealth to distribute that would have been done at the time of Haakon's death. If he had no will (a directive giving this to this one, etc.) then his estate would have been settled by New York state's default formula. I don't know what that formula is exactly but typically in a lot of states the formula is 1/3 to the widow, 2/3 divided equally between surviving children. But all sorts of shenanigans can happen when settling an estate--"Do not say you truly know someone until you have divided an inheritance with them"--.
His death certificate would most likely have been issued by the state of New York if he still lived there when his death occurred. But you don't know where or when he died for sure and New York City and New York are such heavily populated that it might be hard to get a search done. The Italian gen site that Jane gave you before has a form with which to order a New York state or city d.c. or directions anyway.
Do you know Haakon's date of birth in Norway for sure? Have you looked for an estate record of his parents?
The Italian gen site wedding database revealed this partner for a 1929 marriage of a Haaken Hansen:
Last Name Given Name Month/Day Year CtfNum County Soundex ID Heidnansen Martha Sep 27 1929 14299 Kings H355 2016250
There is an order form at the site. I'm not sure Heidnansen is a good interpretation of her last name but you can see what you think when you see the document.
So Haakon and Aagot got divorced? Any record of that in Norway?
