Seeking information about Ole Olsen, Botna, who married Eli Gulliksdatter, Hoyland, in 1825. Later lived at Mysing and Dybing, Heskestad. Said to have left for America in 1854 but I cannot find a record. Would also like to locate Ole's birth information and his parents. Possibly born 6 Jan 1794. Any help would be appreciated.

Norway did not start keeping fairly comprehensive lists of persons emigrating from its various ports until the mid-1860s.

From Helleland, Rogaland I'd expect the most convenient port of departure for this family to have been the city/port of Stavanger. Stavanger's early records of emigration were lost in a fire but at the Digitalarkivet they have a 'rebuilt' database ("Emigranter fra Stavanger 1825-1970") from such sources as could be found.

Your family appears in that substitute database several times (10?) - here are just a few examples -
http://gda.arkivverket.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&sidenr=20&filnamn=STAV&gardpostnr=10118&sokefelt=skjul
http://gda.arkivverket.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&sidenr=24&filnamn=STAV&gardpostnr=36239&sokefelt=skjul
http://gda.arkivverket.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&sidenr=26&filnamn=STAV&gardpostnr=101678&sokefelt=skjul

Did you search the parish records of births/baptisms for the years just before and after 1794 for any possible indication of Ole/Ola Olsen?
A source is listed for some of those database entries -
“Hetland skipreide i 450 år”, 2 volumes by Petrus Valand/Olav Heskestad

Kåre, I wonder if you can read the first name in the witness column for the marriage in 13. It might be a relative of Ole?

I read the other witness as being Johnnes Gullickson Hoyland. This could be a brother of Eli. Perhpas this person.

A tough find, Ancestry.com does give the ability to use varius search parameters for baptism in Norway using this data base.

Norway, Select Baptisms, 1634-1927

Using Ole Ols* born 6 Jan 1794 Rogaland turns up no one. Using the same parameters but any day in January turns up three, none born in Helleland or Heskestadt.

Using Ole Ols* born 1794 Rogaland turns up 87 Ole Olsons. Here are the ones associated with either Helleland or Heskestadt.

Name: Ole Olsen
Gender: Male
Baptism Date: 24 mar 1792
Baptism Place: Helleland,Rogaland,Norway
Father: Ole Rejersen
Mother: Ingeborg Sonesd

Also in Digitalarkivet middle of left page.

http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=15772&idx_id=15772&uid=ny&idx_side=-3

Name: Ole Olsen
Gender: Male
Baptism Date: 2 mar 1793
Baptism Place: Heskestad,Rogaland,Norway
Father: Ole Tostensen
Mother: Anna Pedersd

Here is the Digitalarkivet record for the above Ole Olsen. It is interesting to note that the father Ole Tostensen is recorded with the farm name Dybvig.

It may be a shot in the dark, but here is the family of Ole Rejersen with his second wife Kari Olsdatter in the 1801 Norwegian Census. . They have in the family Søren Olsen age 15 and Ole Olsen age 8. The are associated with the farm Egelien.

I found a record online where he is referred to as Ole Olson Eikeli-Botna-Dybing(i Heskestad) døypt 24-3 -1792. Don't know if this helps at all. Thanks for all your hard work so far. His son Gullik is my ancestor.
