Here is Redval in the parental home in 1900:
http://digitalarkivet.arkivverket.no/ft/person/pf01037083000933

Here they are in 1875 no Haakon in their family but check the Haakon Hanson b 1873 in the family below, a possibility?
http://digitalarkivet.arkivverket.no/ft/person/pf01052091004626

Here is a Haakon Hanson Vangen coming in 1902 to US:
http://digitalarkivet.arkivverket.no/gen/vis/8/pe00000000527825

A little hard to say, but we do need the correct Hakon to be in US in 1900 to be there for Jorgine.

Haakon Einar Wang in 1910 in Norway:
http://digitalarkivet.arkivverket.no/ft/person/pf01036373006448

This Haakon is not "off the hook" since his location in 1900 is not known. Even though his listing in the 1910 census doesn't contain any information about Haakon in America, he still could have been there.

Here is the Haakon Hanson Wang in the WWI draft registration database, born 31 Dec 1879. His father is Hans Amundson but doesnot appear to be residing on Vangen (although two of the fadernes have that address) #7:

Trying to bring the search back to New York and to 1900 when Jorgine arrived and seemed to indicate she was engaged to a Hakon Weng. No Wengs, Vengs, Wangs, or Vangs living in all of the New York boroughs. A search in the 1900 US Census for those names in New York turns up no good candidates.

Searching under Hakon does not give much better results. Only one even close to possible. He and his son are living with a family named Ecklund.

However he and his son live at 344 Pleasant Avenue. It is near 118th Street east side of Manhatten.

Hakau Erekson
in the 1900 United States Federal Census
Name: Hakau Erekson
[Nakan Erekson]
Age: 36
Birth Date: Nov 1863
Birthplace: Norway
Home in 1900: Manhattan, New York, New York
Race: White
Gender: Male
Immigration Year: 1885
Relation to Head of House: Boarder
Marital Status: Widowed
Father's Birthplace: Norway
Mother's Birthplace: Norway
Occupation: View on Image
Neighbors: View others on page
Household Members:
Name Age
William Eklund 40
Tekla Eklund 37
Florence Eklund 8
Hakau Erekson 36
Jalmar Erekson 4

If you assume that his name is really Hakon Eriksen or close to that, there are a few names in the 1865 Norwegian Census. that fit that name and a 1864 or so birth date.

Hi

In the obituary after Jørgine's father it is written that Jørgine met a villain who persuaded her to come with him to America under the promise of marriage. Neither her father nor anyone in her family ever heard from Jørgine again.
(Written 30. january 1918)

Jørgine's sister Nicoline moved to US 1903 and later to Canada.
Jørgine's brother Hans Andersen Strand also moved to US.
Some of her father's siblings also emigrated to US
- but according to the obituary the family didn't hear from Jørgine. (I would think they searched as best they could.)

In the manifest Jørgine's last residence in Norway is said to be Christiania (Oslo) and she grew up in Øvre Eiker. She must have met this Hakon before she emigrated. He probably left a little before Jørgine, because she was going to him.
He probably was born no later than 1875/76/77 and not more than 10/15 years earlier (1860-1877) and in the late 1890's he was either in Øvre Eiker or in Christiania. His name probably was Hakon/Haakon/Håkon with unknown patronym and some connection to Weng/Wang.
(Sounds like the needle in the haystack)

Thanks Vivi, I suspect we would be better starting the search in Norway in place of looking for the needle in America.

Anyway here is probably Hakon E Eriksen travelling to New York in 1900. It states that he is a citzen of US and lived there 13 years.

Hakon Eriksen
in the New York, Passenger Lists, 1820-1957
Name: Hakon Eriksen
Arrival Date: 23 Feb 1900
Birth Date: abt 1865
Age: 35
Gender: Male
Ethnicity/ Nationality: Norwegian
Port of Departure: Liverpool, England
Port of Arrival: New York, New York
Ship Name: Teutonic

Interesting a Hakon Eriksen and a Jalmar Eriksen listed in the 1875 Norwegian Census born in 1865 and living in Kristianana.

http://www.rhd.uit.no/folketellinger/ftliste_e.aspx?ft=1875&knr=0301&kenr=028&bnr=1533&lnr=00

Or this Hakon also in Kristianana.

Well, the Ellis Island site didn't come up with an image of the Teutonic arrival record. In the transcribed list Hakon is listed as Jakon Eriksen and he is listed as married.

Hi

When was the 1900-census held in this area of New York?
Since there is no Hakon listed, he might have emigrated after the census was held, but before Jørgine came 31. aug. 1900.

Hakon Erickson has already been found in the 1900 American census, with a poorly transcribed name and a 3 year old son named Jalmer...The default date for most censuses is June.

Since Hakon Erikson said when he arrived in 1900 that he had been in US for 13 years, here is another Hakon leaving in 1887 for New York:
