Hi. I'm looking for boat records for Brede E Molstad and Maria Melbostad, both from Gran, Norway. I'm not sure if they were married when they came over or if they came together. Some notes suggest Maria came over in 1865 and stayed with her brother, Gunder in Houston County, MN. Brede might of traveled with his brother, Gunder.. Brede and Maria were married at some point and had their first child, Kjerste, in 1869 in Fillmore County, MN. Thank you for any info you can find.

Brede Eriksen from the Molstad farm left Gran to head to America about the 15th of June 1865, It is most likely that he would have sailed from Oslo/Kristiania. If the records for that port/city include departures that early then you have a good chance to find what you seek.
Brede Eriksen is listed as born 28 Jun 1844 - which means he would have been almost 21 years old when he left and not very likely to have been married before he left.

Do you know where the Molstad farm was in Norway? How far it would have been from Melbostad or Sorum farm in Gran?

Gran is not a large district so the distances between such locations would not have been great. Probably all well within 5 miles of each other.
Note that there were/are more than one farm called Sørum there - so cannot identify which one you mean.

Are there MN marriage records dated as early as 1866 to show date of Brede and Maria's marriage? Would there be a death record for Erik born in 1867 in Fillmore County MN?

It is often useful to check the online library catalog at familysearch.org

For instance when I looked up Minnesota - topic Vital Records I found -
https://familysearch.org/search/catalog/1803974

You can also use the same catalog to lookup Fillmore, Minnesota and perhaps learn of other resources available.

Back to say: I see Hopkins just posted. Link doesn't work on my system, so I don't know what that is. I'll leave the following in case it's helpful.

Minnesota Official Marriage System (MOMS) is a free, searchable database of early marriages. Not a complete accounting of all marriages.

No law required a death be recorded with a civil authority. The ELCA archives may have records of deaths and marriages in this family.

The Dalby Database covers southeast Minnesota.

Norway Digital Archives has database of marriages in Fillmore county, Minnesota.

Jane -
Try going to the beginning of that website
familysearch.org
(when you are there the URL should read https://familysearch.org)

Pause your cursor over the word Search and choose Catalog.
The next page will wait for you to enter a place, for the above I entered United States, Minnesota and clicked on the button 'Search'
A list of topics is presented and I chose to look at Vital Records where I encountered "Minnesota, county marriages, 1860-1949" as an item available to study.

Yes thanks I understand that; that's not the problem. Nice description, though, of narrowing search on Family Search.
