It is possible that a distant relative arrived in Sydney, NSW, Australia on board the sailing ship "Duke of Edinburgh" as an able seaman in July 1874. His name was noted in the shipping records as Nils M Thomsen - the ship came to Sydney from the "South Seas Islands" - most likely Fiji, Vanuatu and Tonga in the South West Pacific

Anyone with information, I would be grateful

Not sure if this person is related, but here is an interesting christening record from 1888:

Born 14 Jun 1888
Christening: 09 Sep 1888, Nykirken, Bergen.
Parents: Seaman Nils Thomsen b.1848 & wife Ingeborg Tomine Carlsen b.1850
Source: Bergen county, Nykirken, Parish register (official) nr. B 5 (1885-1894), Birth and baptism records 1888, page 96.

The couple also have a daughter Anna born 23 Jan 1886, christened 28 Mar 1886 in Nykirken, Bergen, and sons Tomas Kornelius, christening 25 Jan 1880 and Emil Nikolai, christening 19 Feb 1882.
