Gets a little confusing here as the 1930 US Census would have him living in Washington D.C.

As I said, the archive says this man died in Sogndal, Norway. It seems your grandfather died in the U.S.?

I think that this is him in 1933 in Washington D.C. He is listed as lieut. col. USA.

The Evening Star newspaper published in District of Columbia on 23 Mar 1934, says Jens Stedje died the day before suffering a stroke in his apartment at the Burlington in Washington. The only survivor mentioned was his brother Johannes in Norway.

The photoes of medals and portret is from De Heibergske Samlinger - Sogn Folkemuseum where you also find a photo of his sabel with the inscription "To Capt. Jens Stedje 13"U.S.Cav.Troop A.4"U.S.Cav. - 1914".

Jens E. Stedjes parents, Erik Johannesen, Stedje and Dorthe Jensdatter, Stenehjem, were married June 7 1871, see #6.
Thier first child, Johannes, was born Sept 19 1871, see #93.

Erik Johannesen was born Jan 27 1849, see #18.
His parents were Johannes Eriksen, Granden and Gjertrud Sjursdatter, Stedje.
The family in 1865.
Johannes Eriksen, Stedje and Gjertrud Sjursdatter, Fjæren were married May 30 1843, see #5.

Dorthe Jensdatter was born Dec 31 1847, see #9.
Her parents were Jens Olsen and Margrethe Eriksdatter, Stenehjem.
They were married June 6 1838, see #5.

Margrethe (Magrethe) Erichsdatter was born Nov 8 1818, see 4th birth record on left page.
Her parents were Erich Erichsen and Guri Pedersdatter, Stedje.
Erich Erichsen, Stedje and Guri Pedersdatter, Amble were married June 2 1815, see halfway down right page.

Jens Olsen was baptized Dec 19 1813, see 1st baptism record on right page.
His parents were Ole Endresen and Durdei Johannedatter, Hove.
The family in 1801.
Endre Olsen and Durdei Andersdatter is Oles parents.

Unfortunately we have no family photos of Jens. I do not think he person that died in Norway is my relative. I believe my relative is buried in the US in Arlington National Cemetery and doubt that his remains would have been shipped from Norway back to the US. I think the photo of the man included with his US Army medals is the Jens E. Stedje that is my great grandfather.

I think this refers to my relative as the date of death on his tombstone in Arlington National Cemetery is Mar. 22, 1934. My next research project is to find information about his time with my great grandmother in the Philippines. I would love to find a photo of them together. Unfortunately during WWII Manila and Legazpi were heavily bombed and many records lost.

Ancestryi.com transcribes him with the last name of his father and not the correct patronymic name of Ericksen. But the data seem match the Digitalarkivet data.
