Interesting in the Digitalarkviet marriage record for Anne she is given the Bakken farm name. So maybe how Ole acquired the name.

So let me summarize this.

Marit Ingebretsdatter b.1819 had a child out wedlock with Ole Pedersen Bentz b.1831. This child was Olia Pedersdatter, b. 1850.

Anne Guttormsdatter and Paul Torgersen had a family of at least three daughters. The pertinent children are Ingeborg b. 1823, Marit b. 1828 and Anne b. 1838. Ingeborg married Peder Olsen Bentz in 1855. Marit and Anne married brothers. The brothers are Halvor Jensen and Peder Jensen. The dates of the weddings chronologically are Marit-Halvor in 1853, Ingeborg-Peder Olsen Bentz in 1855, and Anne-Peder Jensen in 1858. The children mentioned in the posts from these relationships are Ole Pedersen b. 1854, prior to the marriage of Ingeborg-POB in 1855, and Anne b. 1859, daughter of Anne-Peder Jensen.

In 1865, Anne, Peder Jensen, their daughter Anne, and Marit-Halvor Jensen and their nephew Ole immigrated together to America. The two men and Marit are recorded as using the last name "Skarmoe" on the Canadian arrival passenger list. Ingeborg and POB did not immigrate to America.

Is this correct?

I note that Marit and Halvor were married when Ole was born out of wedlock in 1854. Is it possible that he was raised in their household from the time that he was an infant? Or is it more likely that he was raised by Ingeborg and POB? And a decision to send him to America with M/H at a later time?

I understand that Bakken/Bakke come from a farm. What is the source of names Bentz/Benz and Skarmoe?

Is there any further information on Marit Engebretsdatter? Does she appear in the 1865 census? The 1885 Minnesota census lists a Marit Engebretson age 65 born in Norwary as a member of the Johan-Olia Hansen household. This appears to be Olia's mother. The 1880 US census does not include her as a member of this household.

Thank you for your help.

Eric
