This is Rich. I am back. I know it has been 5 1/2 years.
Thank You for the help in the past.
Now I am excited. My family is traveling to Noway 8/2017.

My wife and I plan to visit the Dale farm near Arnafjord sojn, vik.
We will travel from Gudvangen. We do not have a means of travel from Gudvange to Arnsfjord yet. We will need some help with the trip.
We would, also, try to meet with anyone who has any connection to the Dale homestead. This is the farm of my mother's ancestors.

Any help is always appreciated.

Rich

This is Rich. Here is some information I have.
Posted - 14/07/2010 : 11:41:53
The book "Nordmændene i Amerika" (The Norwegians in America, published vol I 1907, vol II 1913) by Martin Ulvestad, states that Ole Nelson Dahle from Arnefjord, Sogn (imm 1850), was a farmer in Capron, Illinois. Capron is in Boone Co.
It also says that "His son G.D. Nelson has a furniture & hardware store in Stoughton (Dane Co.), Wis since 1906."

From the same book:
A number of Norwegian families, some from Vik parish in Sogn, and some from Seljord in Telemark, came to Long Prairie by Belvidere in 1848. There are not many Norwegians left on that place now, but in Carpron there is a norwegian settlement, established in 1850. Ole Nielsen Dahle † from Vik in Sogn was one of the first.

Belvidere is a city in Boone County, Illinois. See also this article in Rockford Register Star about early Norwegian settlement in Boone County.

I also found that their daughter Ingeborg Nilsdtr. Dale (aka "Isabella Iverson") born Dec. 1836 married Ole Iverson in Illinois. They can be found in Lanesboro, Fillmore, MN in 1880, where they built the Merchants Hotel.

The record shows that Niels Olsen came from Dahle and Guro Olsdatter came from Hellen, see #24.
Here is a map showing Dale, Hellen and Gudvangen, link.

Travel by car from Gudvangen to Arnafjord takes a little more than one hour, see route here.

Thank You. This is helpful.
The possibility of visiting the Dale farm and area is exiting.
I just have to arrange for a car and driver. I am hopeful the the people at the Gudvnagen Fjordhotel can help me make arrangements.
