Hi folks, I am working on a project related to Johanne Aurdal (b.1899) in Sykkylven in Norway. She lived in Seattle from 1928- 1937, but I am still looking for any more information about here.
I know she lived in the house with Haakon Beyer Friele and his family in Seattle, so any information about this family will be of great value as well.
Do anyone in here know anything about Aurdal or Friele?
I am grateful for any information.
best, Anders Bache |

Seattle Daily Times.Sunday, November 20, 1932 Seattle, Washington Page: 10
"Mrs Haakon B Friele and children are expected home this week from Norway, where they spent the summer in Oslo visiting with Mrs. Friele's parents Mr and Mrs Fritz Frolich. Mr Friele has gone east to join his family in New York."
This family is mentioned as traveling between 1928-1932 to Alaska, California, at least twice to Norway one time via the Panama Canal. By 1932 there are 3 sons mentioned in some articles. Later mentions include son Harold Berle Friele. One other son is named Haakon "Teddy".
The family also hosted a lot of visitors Mrs. Sven Ditmarch. Mrs. Dagne Friele (Haakon's mother and sister of Einar Beyer the Norwegian Consul) Ruth Kielland Berle (Mrs. Haakon Friele's sister) among them. Also hosted in their home, the King of my bad Crown Prince and Princess of Norway May 25-27 1939 and again in 1942.
In 1949 Dagny Friele visited America again on the occasion of her 80th birthday. There was a nice article and photo in the Seattle paper. Family members mentioned were Dagny's sons Haakon who is president of Nakat Packing Corporation, Berent who is president of International Basic Economy Corporation in New York and Einar who died in a German concentration camp in WWII, Dagny's brother Einar Beyer 78 who was Norwegian Consul 1934-1941.
Mrs. Haakon B Friele was killed in a plane crash in Alaska on 10 July 1957. Her obit mentions these survivors: husband Haakon, sons Harald, Haakon and Rolf all in Seattle, brothers Harald Berle and Johan Berle in Norway, her mother Mrs.F Frohlich and stepbrother Fritz in Seattle. Her daughter-in-law Mrs. Harald Friele also died in the crash. Her age was 55.
In 1964 Haakon B Friele also hosted Crown Prince Harald in his home.
Haakon B Friele is mentioned as a survivor of his brother Berent in Berent's obituary in 1985 and residing in Scottsbluff Arizona. Haakon dies in Jan 1987 residing in Paradise Valley, Arizona. |

Your post in Arkivverket is a good introduction to the subject. i assume that the Lars Aurdal named in Johanne's arrival record is Lars Rasmussen Aurdal b Feb 23, 1903 listed in the 1910 Census.
Arkivverket
1910 Census
Probably the arrival of Lars Rasmussen Aurdal in 1923. There are a large number of passengers on this ship using the last name of Aurdal. this one has a father named Rasmus Ardal and is traveling to a friend also named Lars Aurdal living at Poulson Camp 2, Hoquiam, Washington.

The first Lars Aurdal could be Lars Karl Bernhard Aurdal who left in 1923 for Seattle Washington, his father is listed as Andreas Aurdal and he is going to a friend named Hans Grebstad at 1331 6 West Seattle.
