If Ole Thorsen and family came to America in 1848, we should be able to find them in the census records for 1850, 1860, and 1870. It has been a struggle to find early records for the famillyl. Here s a likely record for son Thor born in 1844. Record indicate he spent most of his life in Kendall County, Illinois.

Thor O. Thorsen
in the Illinois, Deaths and Stillbirths Index, 1916-1947
Name: Thor O. Thorsen
Birth Date: 15 Sep 1844
Birth Place: Skoniria, Norway
Death Date: 12 Nov 1934
Death Place: Elliott, Ford, Illinois
Burial Date: 14 Nov 1934
Burial Place: Elliott, Ford, Illinois
Cemetery Name: Elliott
Death Age: 90
Occupation: Carpenter
Race: White
Marital Status: W
Gender: Male
Residence: Ill
Father Name: Ole Thorsen
Father Birth Place: Norway
Mother Name: Carrie Inger
Mother Birth Place: Skoniria, Norway
Spouse Name: Martha Thorsen
FHL Film Number: 1712220

He married Martha Petersen in 1870 also in Kendall County, Illinois

Thor O Thorson
in the Illinois, Marriage Index, 1860-1920

Anton, I'm struggeling to see the connection you've found between these people and the Boyd's. Could you elaborate?
Niels Mikkelsen Fjelberg and Agathe Abelsdatter is interesting. They have a daughter Guro Nilsdatter, born 09 Oct 1870, christened at home 10 Oct 1870.

Could she be Thine (Tena) Boyd, born 10 Oct 10 1868, and the same as Dina or Trina Nelson b 1870?

I'm starting to believe Thine Boyd could be adopted. She seems to be born in Norway, with a father named Nils (Ref "Dina Nilson"). Both John A Boyd and Sarah Boyd were in America in the 1860''s, and it's unlikely the travelled to Norway in that period.

Jan Peter I am starting to come around to this conclusion as well. That Guro Nilsdattter is Dina Nelson Boyd. It begins to explain the presence of the Nelson twins Mikael and Elias in the same area.

However the family here in 1875 but no Guro

1875

Mikel Elias confirmed in 1883

Mikel Elias emigration in 1906, brother Abel as well, returning to Illinois

This is weird..
A couple named Niels Mikkelsen & Aagaathe Abelsdatter, Sæbø, christened a son on Oct 30th, 1870, in Fjelberg parish. Fjelberg is in Etne.(!).
Simon Abraham is born 09 Oct 1870, the same day as the Guro Nilsdatter in question above.
Could they be twins? Weird that they would be christened in different churches. But on second look, the mother to Guro is written Margrethe Abelsdatter. Maybe Guro is a wrong lead...

Simon Abraham married in Roland, Story, Iowa in 1898.

I think you are right to doubt your Guro. In the 1875 Norwegian Census there is
Nils Mikkelsen
Agothe Abelsdatter
Malene Hellene Nilsdatter
Helga Serine Nilsdatter
Abel Mikel Nilsen
Mikael Elias Nilsen
Simon Abraham Nilsen

No Guro

1875

Another weird thing... born 1833? And so many children...

The farmhistory book for Eid and Fjelberg says that Nils Mikkelsen lived on nedre Sæbø in Fjelberg. He was born 1853 by parents Mikkel Gunnarsen (1813-1858) and Grete Nilsdr (1820-).
Only one son Simon Abraham is mentioned, with wife Ågot Abelsdr. It says Nils re-married in 1880 with Johanne Jørgine Nilsdr Sjo.

Maybe the children was given up for adoption when Ågot died?

Jan Peter -- Fjelberg was never part of Etne. It has been sliced and diced many times through the years and finally dissolved into another district - but no, never part of Etne.

The family N. Mikkelsen family discussed does appear in the bygdebok "Kvinnherad b. 5 Fjelberg og Eid”, by Anders Havnelid. No daughter named Guro or similar.
