As shown above, the 8 month old Dina [Nielsdatter] from Hadeland who left Norway in 1868, is the same as Dina Rossing nee: Hilden. So she is not Dina Boyd.

I think it's clear that Dina, her brother(?) Hockey, (and possibly also sister(?) Ida) is adobted into the family. Dina is said to be born in Norway (Etne?), and Joe and Sarah were not in Norway in 1868-1870.
Any adult Nelsons (from Etne, Skånevig or Fjelberg) who died in Illinois in the 1870s? It seems something must have happened to their parents?
Family relations in these settings are strong, so maybe Joe or Sarah are uncle/aunt to the Nelsons? (Dina, Hockey, Ida).

Is the Nelson/Nilsen lead with the 5 Nelson children living with Joe and Sarah the best explanation of who Tena was? The Nelson farm was across the street from the Boyd farm.

Robert, This thread is getting very long can you explain for me what farm you are talking about and from what record are a family of Nelsons living across the road from the Boyds

Your comment above made me take a look for any other people named Nelson living in Pilot, Kankakee in the 1800 Census. I did find a Gunner Nelson living on the same farm as Thore Thorson and wife Caroline. If memory serves me right that Thore is the brother of Siri (Sarah). Could he be an older sibling of Dina, Hocke and Ida?

i have a copy of the land map for Pilot township in 1883. Joe A Boyd is in section 31. Immediately south of him is E Nelson and A Nelson property in section 6. There are also 4 Thorson properties very close to Joe.

The previous mentioned Abel Mikel Nilsen in census-1910 for Pilot, Kankakee, Illinois. Listed above him is hired man Hochey Halverson.
Here is Haakon Halvorsen Brandvik emigrating to Hersches, Ill in 1908.

No reason to believe Haakon Halvorsen Brandvik is any family, but I think we have the origin for the Hockey name... Haakon!
Hockey Boyd, aka Haakon Nilsen.

Well the first names that come to my mind are Elias and Abel Nilsen (Nelson) who we have discussed many times in this thread.

Well some data but in looking at a tree for Niels Abelsen, it does not seem likely that he is the father of any of the three Nelson children, Dina, Hockse and Ida.

There are a lot of connections between families but still no parents of Dina, Hokse or Ida or even one of them.
