Hi lyndal40. I looked up his marriage information in the Evangelical Lutheran Church Records. Is this where you found the info? Can you read who their attendants were? Also I see Hans was an attendant for someone. Can you read who they were? Thank you.

Is it common that people leaving Norway coming to the USA change their names?
Previously I was doing research for Andrew Lubeck. On this site we discovered that his name in Norway was Anders Andreassen from the farm named Lybaek or Lybek

Andrew Lubeck's son Oscar married Hans Skjonsberg's daughter Pauline, my husband's grandparents!

His papers clearly list that he landed in the US through the port of Philadelphia on or about June of 1889. The next document is for Peter and has the exact same date and entry location.

I can't seem to bring anything up. What are you entering in the search space?

Didn't use records search space but CATALOG as I mentioned. The records are not indexed into searchable database but are online digital images.
Under Day county, South Dakota was listed the topic of Naturalizations which have been scanned for the state.
Then was allowed to limit to Day county.
Found the choices which covered Declarations of Intention whjch would include 1890 date as earlier given by someone else and kept checking the page scans until seen.

A great deal is being added through scanned images. And the catalog there can be a gold mine.

The attendants were Ole Helgesen and David Johnson. Yes all the information is from the ELCA Records.

Here is the record where Hans is an attendant. The other attendant is Jens Johnson.

You mentioned there were several Hans Olsens arriving in 1889 is there one in Philadelphia?

There are five.

Most likely this one since the age of 22 corresponds to Hans (incorrectly transcribed as Haris}

Haris Olson
in the Pennsylvania, Passenger and Crew Lists, 1800-1962
Name: Haris Olson
Gender: Male
Arrival Age: 22
Birth Date: abt 1867
Departure Place: Liverpool, England
Arrival date: 18 Jun 1889
Arrival Place: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
Ship: British Princess

Link

There is also a Hans Olsen age 21 a little further up the page but the record from the meta data leads me to believe it is the one with Line and Frantz that is the correct one.

Meta Data
