Here is a likely candidate. Were Oline and Hermund married in America?

Olina Oiel
in the Norway, Select Baptisms, 1634-1927
Name: Olina Oiel
Gender: Female
Birth Date: 11 des 1831 (11 Dec 1831)
Baptism Date: 26 des 1831 (26 Dec 1831)
Baptism Place: Voss,Hordaland,Norway
Father: Oiel Olsen
Mother: Jorind Larsdr

Original record shows the farm to be Myrland

#26

Her name is probably written as Olina Øielsdatter Myrland

Yes, I now found that Hermund and Oline were married in Wisconsin in 1857. There was a short bio on Hermund's "Find a Grave" website. Thank you all again for the infomation! I was confused on Oline because on Ancestry she is listed as Oline Egilsdtr, also Oline Oilsd..... Very confusing so now I have the correct information. I am so appreciative of the time each of you put into this posting!

Here are some other children of Øiel and Joran

Axliane born abt 1815

Link

Baptism record is for January 28, 1815. last record on the left hand page .

Link

Aslak baptism Dec 27, 1820

#115

Anna born Oct 1, 1825

#174

Original record for the marriage of the parents is January 8, 1815. Not the easiest to read but near the bottom of the right hand page

Link

Øiel Olsen left Voss for North America at age 70 in 1856. Accompanied by daughters Anne b 1826,and Oline b 1831.

Link

Based on the birth year given in the emigration from Voss record of 1786, this is likely him with his parents Ole Halvorsen and Anna Svendsdatter on the farm Bidne in the 1801 Census.

Link

Ancestry.com gives the baptism date for Øiel as May 7, 1786. That may or may not be correct. 1786 is the correct year but the original record is somewhat confusing as to the exact date. The original record is found on this page right hand side about the middle, look for the date of 24 Maii on the far right

Link

Ole Halvorsen Giergager married Anne Svendsdatter Bidne on June 5, 1781, they were engaged May 19, Ole is listed as a soldier. See number 3 right hand page.

There is an oline discussion about Axilane Øyelsdatter (note the spelling of this name varies). The discussion mentions her marriage and her parents and the parents of her parents. She married an Anders Nelson Hauge and her parents and grand parents are also listed as:

Akslianna foreldre : Øyel Olson Bidneshovden f.1786,
(foreldre Ole Halvorson Gjeråker-Mørkve f.1751-1837 g m Anna Sveinsdotter Bidne f. 1758-1840)

g.1.g. 1815 m. Jorun Larsdotter Myrland f.1790-1848,
hennes foreldre Lars Øyelsen Overland 1747-1812 og Aslianna Katrine Ringheim Voss f.1753

Given the above information from the Forum, this is likely the family of Joran Larsdatter in the 1801 Census on Overland farm. Parents are Lars Øyelsen and Axliane Aslaksdatter.

1801 Census

Lars Øyelsen married Axellianna Aslachsdatter Oct 22, 1777

Lars Øyelsen died April 12, 1812

Thank you all again! Another point of interest for me - My g-g-grandfather, John Olss. Hove, b. July 13, 1823 emigrated in 1851. That is the info I have obtained. Is there a place in the church records that show when he leaves and if that is the correct year? I think his sister, Brita who was married to Guttorm Kjellson Lilleoren while still in Norway also emigrated in 1851. Do the records show this and is there any record of the ship on which they traveled to America, I also have John's birthdate as July 13, 1823 and being baptized in the Hove church on July 14, 1823. Is that possible? Again, thank you for your time...................

Your data on both the birth date and the baptism date for John Olsen seem to be correct. Both are found in the original record. See number 57.

Yes there are emigration records for when a person leaves a parish. They are not always very complete but in the case of your John Olsen Hove born July 13, 1823 this appears to be him leaving Vik April 25, 1851. The right hand page contains the Out migration (Utflyttede) list. He is listed as Ungkarl (bachelor) John Olsen Hove. 13/7 23.

#17

I think that sister Brita Olsdatter and husband Guttorm Kjellsen did not leave Vik until 1854. They appear to be the couple under numbers 94 and 95.

#94 and 95

Since Guttorm Kjellsen and Brita Olsdatter did not marry until Nov 4, 1852 it is unlikely that they left before that date.

#13

Looking at the record more closely I see that they have a son traveling with them born Nov 30, 1852. That would seem to clinch it.

#89

The only issue I have with the emigration record for Guttorm and Brita being number 94 and 95 is the birth date for Guttorm does not seem to be the Jan 23, 1825 that I believe is correct for him.

#11

The parents of Guttorm, are Kjeld Guttormsen and Ingeborg Jorgensen Lilleøren and were married Jan 19, 1823.

#4

Kjeld Guttormsen was born about 1788 or 1789 and he and his parents Guttorm Kjeldsen and Inga Larsdatter can be found in the 1801 Census on Hønsie

1801

He was baptized Feb 21, 1789.

Link

Guttorm Kieldsen and inga Larsdatter were married June 13, 1776

See second marriage right hand page

Link .

Guttorm Kjeldsen was baptized July 24, 1745. His father is called Kield (Kjeld) Hønsi. See left page number 15 Døbt 24 Juli

I'm still searching for info on the John Oleson family.....
John was born July 13, 1823, emigrated to America in 1851 and must have settled in Dane Co., Wisconsin. His wife, who he married on December 12, 1852 in Vienna, Dane, Wisconsin, was Helge (Halje) Oleson from Vik, Norway. I have Helga's birthdate as March 22, 1824. I have her listed as Seim and also Saebo. Can you tell me anything about her parents. I think her mother was unmarried when she was born. I have them listed as Ole Olssen Lilleoren and Brita Olsdatter. I have no other information on them. Did they ever marry? Did Helga ever have siblings? I have this picture in my mind of a lonely young woman coming to America by herself to meet John Hove whom I imagine sent for her to come. They moved to Worth County, Iowa around 1856 and she died in 1869. I am in the process of putting a new monument on her grave as the old one was broken in several pieces and unable to be mended. They had 8 children, 6 living to adulthood.

Probably the baptism record for Helge

Helga Olsen
in the Norway, Select Baptisms, 1634-1927
Name: Helga Olsen
Gender: Female
Baptism Date: 28 mar 1824
Baptism Place: Vik I Sogn,Sogn Og Fjordane,Norway
Father: Ole Olsen
Mother: Britha Olsdr
FHL Film Number: 126586

The original baptism record does show that she was born out of wedlock. Father is Ole Olsen Sæbø and mother is Britha Olsdatter Lilleøren.

Now the question, did the parents ever marry is a little harder to answer. Maybe they did. The Ancestry data base does have one marriage that may fit.

Ole Olsen
in the Norway, Select Marriages, 1660-1926
Name: Ole Olsen
Gender: Male
Marriage Date: 18 nov 1829
Marriage Place: Vik I Sogn,Sogn Og Fjordane,Norway
Spouse: Britha Olsdr
FHL Film Number: 126586

The original record does show that the bride has the farm name Lilleøren but the groom Ole Olsen has the farm name that looks like Vikøren or Vigøren, which might be Sæbø med Vikøren. If so then the chances are fairly good that they married.

#21

And at least one likely sibling named Ole born in 1832.

Name: Ole Olsen
Gender: Male
Baptism Date: 9 des 1832 (9 Dec 1832)
Baptism Place: Vik I Sogn,Sogn Og Fjordane,Norway
Father: Ole Olsen
Mother: Britha Olsdr
FHL Film Number: 126586

#2

A word of caution here, there is another couple named Ole Olsen and Britha Olsdatter living in Vik at the same time. However they seem to be connected with the farm named Molsnæs. They had at least three children.

The ones named Lars in 1821 and a Gjert in 1824 and Gjert in 1825
belong to the second couple..

And this couple, Ole Olsen Molsnæs and Britha Olsdatter Tndebotten were married in 1808 and so are quite distinct from your couple.

According to the marriage record Brita was born about 1790 and her father was Ole Andersen. Based on that there is only one person in the Ancestry data base that fits that criteria.

Brita Olsen
in the Norway, Select Baptisms, 1634-1927
Name: Brita Olsen
[Brita Andersen]
Gender: Female
Baptism Date: 30 jul 1789
Baptism Place: Vik I Sogn,Sogn Og Fjordane,Norway
Father: Ole Andersen
Mother: Ingri Olsdr
FHL Film Number: 126585

See the second record in July right hand page

Link

Ole Andersen and Ingri Olsdatter had five other childen, Ole 1787, Anders 1788, another Ole 1792, Another Anders 1793, and anothe Ole in 1796.

In the1801 Census husband Ole Andersen is deceased and widow Ingri Olsdatter is living on Seimsøren with two chlden

1801

It is likely that Birth is working as a Tienestefolk (servant) on the Tennold Farm in 1801.

1801

According to the marriage record Ole was born about 1808 and his father was Ole Amundsen. Based on that my best guess would be this Ole.

Ole Olsen
in the Norway, Select Baptisms, 1634-1927
Name: Ole Olsen
Gender: Male
Baptism Date: nov 1807
Baptism Place: Vik I Sogn,Sogn Og Fjordane,Norway
Father: Ole Amundsen
Mother: Giertru Lassesdr
FHL Film Number: 126585

First record in 30th Nov, right hand page

Link

Perhaps Ole and Giertru are from Leikanger

Ole Amundsen
in the Norway, Select Marriages, 1660-1926
Name: Ole Amundsen
Gender: Male
Marriage Date: 14 jul 1793
Marriage Place: , Leikanger, Sogn Og Fjordane, Norway
Spouse: Giertrud Lassesdr
FHL Film Number: 126467

First record right hand page

Link

Here is the family in Leikanger in he 1801 Census, they had three children, Britha 1793, Lasse 1796 and Lars 1799.

After 1801 they had the following chidden, Sigri 1801, Amund 1804 and the Ole mentioned earlier 1807.

1801
