Now thee was also this arrival record. By data it looked like the same guy.

Elias Olsen
in the Canadian Passenger Lists, 1865-1935Name: Elias Olsen
Gender: Male
Arrival Age: 29
Birth Year: abt 1898
Birth Country: Norway
Departure Port: Liverpool, England
Arrival date: 14 May 1927
Arrival Port: Quebec, Canada
Vessel: Aurania

Original says he is from Arkara Norway,,

Going to friend Thor Johnson, Prince Rupert BC. and left wife Mrs. Hanna Olsen, Aarkara PR, Stavanger

We can look deeper and see if there were two guys with the same name, from the same area and going to the same friend in Prince Rupert BC but who arrived a different year and are actually two different people.

If there are two I followed one of them, probably the second guy to Alaska, to the east coat and where he died in New Bedford Mass.

My mother died last November and in going through her papers my sister and I were unable to find ANY information on our father. There isn't a birth certificate or personal papers belonging to my father. He was indeed on the SS Carmania which sailed from Stavanger, Norway 18/4/24. The document is hard to read but my father did sign it and stated his age as 26. He arrived in Quebec, Canada in April 1924 (no specific day is mentioned just the month). My Elias married my mother on October 2nd, 1943. He was killed on March 9, 1952. I have copies of the death notice, the newspaper notices of the accident and the result of the trial (2 years prison for the driver). That is the only information my sister and I have. She has contacted the Canadian Government to see if he became a naturalised citizen but has yet to hear from them. So I will keep on looking. I do remember my mother saying he was from Bergen.

You don't have any personal papers concerning your father. Where did you obtain the Carmania document?

Good find Jackie on the Magnhild name. Here is the family living in Stavanger in 1910.

1910

And living on Aakrehavn, Åkra in 1900. Good match with the data from the arrival document for Elias Olsen.

1900

And a good match location wise with the family of Elias Olsen also on Aakrehavn, Åkra in the 1900 Census.

1900

If you click on the arrows for Previous Domicile and Next Domicile they are next to one another in the census data.

I am using this post since it lists his birth as 28 May 1900. Perhaps we can use that since we have pretty much ruled out most Elias Olsen we have found.

I wil use May 28 with father Ole and vary the birth years. I will look for first names that might morph into Elias. In 1900, only one.

Olaf Olsen Handeland
in the Norway, Select Baptisms, 1634-1927
Name: Olaf Olsen Handeland
Gender: Male
Birth Date: 28 mai 1900 (28 May 1900)
Baptism Date: 24 jun 1900
Baptism Place: Skånevik, Hordaland, Norway
Father's Age: 1857
Mother's Age: 1866
Father: Ole Johan Olsen Handeland
Mother: Johanne Tollefsen
FHL Film Number: 1283392
Reference ID: BK1 P52 CN7

The family in 1910

1910

None in 1899 or 1898.

One in 1901

Name: Einar Endresen
Gender: Male
Birth Date: 28 mai 1901 (28 May 1901)
Baptism Date: 28 jul 1901
Baptism Place: Barbu, Aust-Agder, Norway
Father's Age: born 1863
Mother's Age: born 1862
Father: Ole Tarvald Endresen
Mother: Emma Kristine
FHL Film Number: 1283344
Reference ID: Book 2

Found him in Kansas City under Einar Endresen. Lots of records for him including this one.

Einar Endresen
in the U.S., Index to Alien Case Files at the National Archives at Kansas City, 1944-2003
Name: Einar Endresen
Birth Date: 28 May 1901
Country of Origin: Norway
Registration Number: 4543764

Also tried Olsen as a last name. Found none in 1900, or 1899 and one Thoralf Otto Olsen in 1898 but found him in New York in 1942.

Found one in 1901 but it would be a stretch to turn Alv Bjarne into Elias

Name: Alv Bjarne Olsen
Gender: Male
Birth Date: 28 mai 1901 (28 May 1901)
Birth Place: Kongsberg, Buskerud, Norway
Baptism Date: 28 jul 1901

Father: Peter Kaspar Olsen
Mother: Ragnhild Kristine Christiansen

None in 1902

The site is a bit quirky these days, searches for newspaper mentions prior to 1970 will produce no results, so you have to browse, issue by issue, page by page. Perhaps you will snag a news article about the crash death of Elias Olson on 9 March 1952 and also find an obituary with more biographical information. Good Luck!

Lynn, you assume Elias was driving and was a driver. In the account it says he was on the road when hit. He may have been walking home. Very, very few people named Aleas in Norway, exactly 3 are found by the Digitalarkivet search engine. More than likely, it's a typo which happen frequently in days of yore and also today.
