Can someone give me a more in depth explanation of the letter 'æ'. Is there more than one way to pronounce it? I know it is pronounced as a long 'ee' such as in near or nær but is there another way to pronounce it? And the name of the letter is Ash. Is the name supposed to be pronounced in an american way like the word ashes for example? Also I have been learning norwegian language for about 2 or 3 months now through song lyrics and just learned the word 'Far' for 'Father' with the r pronounced as a d sound. Why have I never seen this pronunciation in any other norwegian word contains an r?
The letter might "officially" be named "ash", but I guess that would be in engliish-spoken countries. In Norwegian, we just call it "æ"... and it's only one way to pronounce it. I've never heard 'Far' being pronounced with the r as a d sound....? Can you give an example? You can listen to the æ-sound here. The Norwegian Alphabet. Norwegian - Æ Ø Å.

It was the android phone application called 'Drops Learn Norwegian' that pronounced it like that. It sounds like 'fode' if it were an english word or pronounced 'fåd' if using norwegian spelling. So the 'ar' of the the word Far would be pronounced like the 'ode ' in the english word 'abode'. Its odd though because when i look up the norwegian word 'Far' on Google, it pronounces it like the english word 'far' but with a rolled r sound
