Eid/Eide and Nordhus were farms located in the parish area then known as Fjelberg, Hordaland. The book "Kvinnherad 5 - Allmennsoga - Gards-og ættesoga - Eid og Fjelberg" has both farms and their subfarms listed in that history. The Eide farm information begins on page 108 and the Nordhus farm on page 331.
Bastian Larsen's birth/baptismal record - https://www.digitalarkivet.no/kb20070226210459 (entry at bottom of those pages) Anna Pedersdatter's birth/baptismal record - https://www.digitalarkivet.no/kb20070226210476 (entry #85)
Bastian and his younger brother Lars are listed as leaving Fjelberg for Nord Amerika on or about 16 March 1857. Both young men are listed as bachelors. Anna Pedersdatter is listed as leaving on the same page of the parish book and she is an unmarried maiden. https://www.digitalarkivet.no/kb20070221650280 (records #55, 56 and 57) |

The family resided on the farm Beito Nordre under main farm Eide. It says Lars Bastianson (1793-) was from Eikanger, and came to Fjellberg in 1824 to participate in the construction of Eid Church. Lars was a great fiddler, and was locally called "Fiddler-Lars". ("Spele-Lars"). Wife Britha Johannesdotter (1798-) was from Kvinnherad. Their children: 1. Bastian 1825 2. Bastian 1826 3. Anna 1830, married to Johannes Lauvøy 4. Britha 1832 5. Margrete 1834 6. Mari 1837 7. Lars 1839 8. Mons 1842 ("Fiddler-Mons"), married to Bertha Abrahamsdr. Farmer and fisheman. Residence: Kobbabogen 9. Ola 1845
Children to Mons Larson & Bertha Abrahamsdr: 1. Lauritz 1870 2. Bernt Abraham 1872 3. Helga Kristine 1875 4. Bertha Marie 1878 5. Anna Bertine 1880 6. Ingeborg Sofie 1883 7. Johanne Malene 1886, married to Knut Johannesson øvre Tofte 8. Josefine Marianne 1890, married to Gjert Johannesson øvre Tofte
Children to Gjert Johannesson & Josefine Marianne Monsdatter Eide: 1. Johannes Tofte 1910 2. Mons 1912, dead as a child. 3. Bertha Tofte 1913, married to Alfred Koløy, Landa 4. Gjert Tofte 1917, married 1967 to Edel Humlen 5. Magne Tofte 1922, married to Kjellfrid Tvedten (1925-2016) 6. Bjørg Tofte, married to Olav Skålnes (1921-1997) 7. Harald Tofte 1933, residence Halden, Østfold.
There are several direct descendants of Magne and Kjellfrid Tofte living in Sæbøvik today.

I must have helped someone else years ago with this Eide family. The 9 children listed as born to Lars Bastiansen and Brita Johannesdtr is actually missing one more son. Johannes Larsen was born to that couple on 1 April 1828. https://www.digitalarkivet.no/kb20070226210474 (record #42) He emigrated to Nord Amerika in 1856 with his wife, Anna Andersdtr and daughter Brithe (b. 1855). https://www.digitalarkivet.no/kb20070221650276 (records #7, 8, 9)
I stumbled across my old note about the son missed in the bygdebok but I have no recollection of who I was trying to help. Perhaps brother Johannes also could be found in Mitchell Co. IA? That did seem to be one of the areas where a number of early Norwegian emigrants to Iowa first settled. |

jwiborg : You mentioned that there are several direct descendants of Magne Tofte living in Saebovik. In 1983, my Father visited a Yaks G. Tofte at 5456 Tafhevag Norway(He is probably deceased). How can I contact some of these descendants? address or e-mail? Thanks, John Larson johnblarson1975@gmail.com |

Are you sure his name was Yaks G. Tofte? Any chance his first name could read Johs?
Johs. G. Tofte (1910-2001) was the oldest son of Gjert Johannesson Tofte & Josefine Marianne Monsdatter Eide. (Johs. is short for Johannes.) He lived at Buneset in 5454 Sæbøvik, and was a brother to Magne Tofte.
This woman lives in the house where Magne lived at Buneset, and is likely related to him. I think she's still the head of the Halsnøy Community Center, which can be reached at halsnoy.sammfunnshus@knett.no I think if you contact her or anyone at the Buneset peninsula in Sæbøvik, they will guide you to a relative. It seems almost everyone in the area are named Tofte, and they are likely related in some way or another...
ps: There is a 3-day festival on Halsnøy/Sæbøvik each summer (mid-July) , that I guess would a perfect time to visit, with live music and a big crab and shrimp party. The woman mentioned above is also the organizer for this Festival.
The red ring next to Tofte is Buneset where she lives. "Eidmarka" on the map is possibly where Beito Nordre under main farm Eide was located. I dont think it exist anymore, but local people might know where it was located. |

He must be buried at Eid church, because that is the parish church for the Eide farm. A manual search in the online death records for this church will confirm this.
But I doubt the grave exist today. In Norway, graves are reused after a certain time, if no one pays the grave fee which starts 20 years after the burial. And that fee is usually only paid for a few decades, until the nearest relatives are also gone. It is very rare to find a 100 year old grave. |
