If you are actually looking for the arrival of 18 June 1887 then you should be informed that it is available through the online catalog of the LDS FamilySearch.org. https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/1860873
Choose to "Browse through 80,509 images". Choose Roll #104 and go to image 123 of 613 on that roll to reach the beginning the pages scanned for that arrival of the Catalonia.

Apparently Ole and his brother Knut were being searched for in 1939. If you haven't already seen, there are at least two mentions one in Norsk Lysningsblad and another in Gulbrandsdølen at the National Library newspaper page. |

Knut - Sorry I didn't include quick instruction on how to page forward and back when you got to the front page. I use the scanned items at FamilySearch so often that I just think it must be completely 'user friendly' automatically. Sorry about that. In Salt Lake City they are putting more and more available as scanned and available over the Internet. More all the time and well worth watching from time to time to check and see what has been added for our easy use. They do have SOME items that are only viewable at one of their Family History Centers. I have one very close to my location so I just drive over during the limited hours they are open to view those items. But check at YOUR location and find where the nearest LDS Family History Center is that you might be able to use also. I just checked and there appear to be a fair number of LDS Family History Centers as far south in Norway as Kristiansand and as far north as Tromsø. https://www.familysearch.org/locations/centerlocator |

Thanks for your info, Hopkins! Will find out about it. True story, jkmarler, that search was the final chapter of that disapearance mystery of Ole and Knut. Relatives back home needed to colse it at least legally due to an economic heir issue on the boys' behalf imposed on their childhood farm . Search ads were inserted in all major norwegian language newspapers , embassy and consulates were involved also. To no avail. Ole Selsjord, born 1866/65 , went to Benson, Minn. possibly to see Theodore Hansen, a businessman originally from Sel, Norway, same as Ole and Knut. Thereafter, no trace. Knut , born 1868, emigrated 1893, landing at Ellis Island from SS Servia with one Iver Berg, american citizen living for the years to come in Bryant, Hamlin, Minn. In the party, heading initially for Tracy, Minn, was also Ole Bergum, later Olaf Berg, of Seattle, Wash. The investigators of 39 corresponded with him to ask for info on the boys, no result. The one piece of info I have on Knut after Ellis Island is a photograph of him taken by Carlson and Frans, 1509 Fifth St, West Superior, Wis. Apparently sent back home by mail. Any chance anyone can lend a hand for more info here? |

Ole born 14. oct 66, Knut 26. dec. 68. Father: Jakob Olsen Selsjord, born 1827, Mother : Marit Knutsdatter Breden born 1843. All this is also on the 1875 census document. Non- confirmed stories goes one or both moved on to Seattle area from Minnesota later on. But the photograph shows Knut also was residing in Duluth at one point, for short or long. Ole may have changed his name to Olaf, some people did that. And both may have started using Jacobsen as their surname. kind regards |

Interesting cases. The Ole Dale and Kanute (Kanute is a well known englishification of Knut as the K(nut) is pronounced in Norwegian as opposed to in English. ) is weakened by the fact that these men must have taken their wives' names, which would have been very unusual in those days, wouldn't it? There are no christian names on those info sheets resembling names in the Selsjord family either. Any way to find out about , say, the wedding dates where wives' maiden names maybe are given? |
