Books which may help you -- “Bygdebok for Aukra”, 4 volumes by Johan Julnes. “Aukra Gjennom Tidene: Lokalhistorisk Skrift” (author unknown).

There is also a rather abbreviated family tree online in the FamilyTree section of FamilySearch.org. At least lists TWO children of those parents.

Likely the mother Nillie Jonsdatter with her parents on the Sandøe farm in 1801 Census. Father is Jon Nilsen and mother is Ingeborg Paulsdatter

1801

A large number of people living on the Sandøen farm in 1801, it might be easier to look at the list in the NHDC list

NHDC 1801

You wil also find Knud Pedersen in the same list. His father is Peder Stenersen and his mother is Anne Povelsdatter

1801

This is likely the baptism record for Nillie. The original record does look like Hille so the transcriber made a slight error.

Hille Johansen
in the Norway, Select Baptisms, 1634-1927
Name: Hille Johansen
[Hille Nielsen]
Gender: Female
Baptism Date: 15 mai 1791 (15 May 1791)
Baptism Place: , , More Og Romsdal, NorwayFraena
Father: Jon Nielsen
Mother: Ingebor Povelsdr
FHL Film Number: 124795

You can find the original record on this page in the far left hand column. About the middle of the page look for the Døbt Jon Nilsen Sandøe og Ingeborg Povelsdatter b.n. Nille fadder Jacob Povelsen Sandøe etc

Based on the 1801 Census I would say that this is the baptism of Knud Pedersen in 1786.

Peder Stenersen married Anne Povelsdtter in 1785.

Peder Stenersen
in the Norway, Select Marriages, 1660-1926
Name: Peder Stenersen

Jonas Knudsen came from a farm on Sandoy called Toregarden, Named after off course someone way back called Tore.

Toregarden was in 1801 owned by Jon Nilsen (672911), farmer and Pilot, and by that time considered to be quit a wealthy man owning several properties.
He was also very well known for his tremendous strength
However him and his son Paul Jonasen (672923) both died at sea, fishing for food (halibut)

Lets stop there for a moment.

Frekgarden was a close by farm to Toregarden.
This farm was bought in 1751 by Jonas Pedersen from Husoy (Ona)
His son, Fredrik Jonasen (672946), 1750-1821 became the farmer here in 1769.
Again the next son of the house , Jonas Fredriksen (672942) took the position as farmer after his father.
Jonas married with a woman with the name of Nille Jonsdatter (672914), daughter of Jon Nilsen at Toregarden.
Jonas died however young in 1811 about 30 years old. They had at this time a son Fredrik Jonasen

After becoming a widow and losing her father an brother a few years later on, Nille was the head of two farms, both Frekgarden and Toregarden.

Nille then re-married with Knut Pedersen (672935) son of Peder Stenersen (672933) and Anne Paulsdatter (672934),
They choose to run the farm Toregarden, and due to the young age of the upcoming inheritor for Frekgarden, Fredrik, the farm was put out on contract for 10 years in 1820 to Ole Olsen Raknestangen, my GGGG Grandfather.

The plan was for Fredrik to resume running the farm within the family as he grew up, but he died in 1831.

Most likely my GGGG Grandfather continued as a user of the farm until the next inheritor could claim the farm.

This was Paul Knutson Sandoy b. 1820, the son of Nille and Knut. He might have resumed Frekgarden around 1840 or right after this.
Paul (Paal) took Frekgarden and moved it to Gaasoy in 1858 and setteled there as the first one on that island. It was before that, only used as pasturage for the owners.
He also became the first Mayor in Sandoy in 1867 as it became a separate municipality. Paul travelled to Sweden to speak to the king in behalf of the people in Sandoy for this purpose.

His brother Jonas Knutson (1822) took over Toregarden after his parents as the oldest son. This is the JONAS KNUDSEN you are refering to

http://digitalarkivet.arkivverket.no/ft/person/pf01038297002933

This is the father of Knut Jonasen 1855 (number 6 on the list). Knut became the owner of the farm as the oldest son.

The next inheritor, Jonas Knutsen, was by locals called Tore-Jonas.
It was quit common at my island that people used the farms name in front of the name of the owner as a nickname.

I can slightly remember Jonas as a kid as i was born in 1971 and moved to the island at the age of 4. I also remember his sisters Marta and Jakobia, not living far off where we did. Two old nice ladies, unmarried and living together.

Cencus 1910 http://digitalarkivet.arkivverket.no/ft/person/pf01036781000108

Inga, born June 25 1883,
Martha, born April 23 1885
Jonas, born June 24 1887
Jakobia, born July 14 1889
Peder, born June 18 1891
Magda, born June 25 1893
Knut, born July 28 1895,
Fridtjof, born June 7 1897
Paul, born August 28 1899

Knut and Paul moved to America
Knut returned later back to Norway, but Paul stayed back in the US

Jonas again got quit a few children, the one that inherited the farm was Jostein J. Sandoy b.1932 with his wife Erna Sandoy.
Children Randi , Bjornar (deceased), John Harry b.1963 (living on sandoy) and Kjell Ove b.1969

Hopefully I have managed to get most of this correct :)

Thank you so much for this information. I appreciate that you picked up on this quite some time after the original posts. You know a good deal more about my ancestors than I did. Do you have any suggestions on someone to contact that may have any additional history or photos of people or places in this family line ?
