Hi
I don't find any new information about her father in her two marriages. Neither do I find anything in the "dødsfallprotokoll" when she dies 1881: https://www.digitalarkivet.no/sk10081211151028
She died in Norway so her husband and children must have emigrated later.

Interesting theory but I think I'll stick with my earlier:

Hi
Oh dear... Yes, I guess it might be a possibility that he is "hiding" in Norway. I don't know why the family seems sure he emigrated to America. I'll go through your list and check them out after finding their name among those baptised in Rollag. If someone is left, I'll try to figure out who it might be.
I have tried to search for him in Sweden, but no luck there either. I suppose Canada also might be a possible place to look for him.

So what crime had been committed that the authorities were looking for Kittle ? Was he a "usual suspect?" |

On the page with Hellik Halvorson and Olaus Kittleson leaving from Eiker is another named Paul Halvorsen Solbergsater. He and Hellick are brothers, sons of Halvor Paulson and Marit Holgesdatter:

Are there any grandchildren in Norway that Kittil might have stood faddernes to before he disappeared? If so, it might be possible to limit the time for his window for leaving. As it stands we have these dates:
1864 reported someone sighted him in Norway 1866 about his wife Live it is noted that her husband has been gone a long time and she is still listed as gift or married 1869 in Live's estate papers in 1889 it is noted that Kittil has been absent for about 20 years 1875 Live's marital status is marked as "f" which might mean fraskilt or divorced 1889 in the newspaper announcement seeking his whereabouts is the remark he left from Ullstadeie in Lyngdal in Flesberg about 1864.
If he was in trouble with the law and it was as late as or after 1866 that he actually left for America, he might have assumed an identity to escape whatever the trouble was. So far no appropriately aged Kittil Herbrandson has been found in US nor Norway nor Canada. |

Not much luck searching for him in the Ancestry.com arrivals. Here is about the only one that even comes close. Lists his occupation as farmer.
Tonster Herbrandsen in the Canadian Passenger Lists, 1865-1935 Name: Tonster Herbrandsen Gender: Male Arrival Age: 60 Birth Year: abt 1809 Arrival Date: Jun 1869 Arrival Port: Canada Vessel: Nestorian |

Hi
There was a house that burned in 1864 and Kittil was seen in or near the house. Enough to make the sheriff interested and he wanted to interrogate Kittil as I understood it. I don't know when in 1864 he was seen, but Kittil was in Eiker in 1864.
He is not found among the sponsors of grandchildren.
Kittil worked as a carpenter.in Norway. They probably also had a few domestic animals.
I found the probate of his son who died 1871, but nothing mentioned about his parents there.
