quote: Also, found them on the 1865 census in Norway.
The link leads to the 1900 Census?
This looks like the father of Iver ,Ole Arnesen with his wife Marit Pedersdatter? No sign of Iver. Perhaps Ole and Anne did not marry.
1865
So Iver was born out of wedlock. See number 127

This looks like Iver and his mother Anne Olsdatter in the 1875 Census. Mother is not married. However see record below, where she marries Hans Jonsen Lillelein in same year as this Census. Or in 1876 as well.
1875
The 1875 Census in the NHDC data base directs one to this record for Iver Olsen in the 1865 Census. He is listed as their daughters son.
1865
NHDC
The Anne Olsdatter listed in the 1865 Census would be too young to be the mother of Iver. It is possible of course that the birth year is way off. |

This is likely the two people listed in the 1865 Census as the grand parents of Iver Olsen.
Ole Syversen in the Norway, Select Marriages, 1660-1926 Name: Ole Syversen Gender: Male Marriage Date: 5 apr 1838 Marriage Place: Lom ,Opland,Norway Spouse: Raney Poulsdr FHL Film Number: 125512he

Now they did have a daughter named Anne but in 1838 not the 1848 listed in the 1875 Census. So either the year is wrong in the 1875 Census or this Anne died young and a second child was born in 1848 and was named Anne.
Anne Olsen in the Norway, Select Baptisms, 1634-1927 Name: Anne Olsen Gender: Female Birth Date: 7 mar 1838 Baptism Date: 5 apr 1838 Baptism Place: Lom,Opland,Norway Father: Ole Syversen Mother: Raney Paulsdr FHL Film Number: 125512

I would say that the Anne born in 1838 is likely the correct Anne. and she married Hans Johnsen Lillelien in 1875.
Marriage
Name is Anne Olsd. Axelen in the marriage record and same birth date of April 5, 1838 as above.
Orignal record is B11. Month and day are left off the record.
B.11
But a second record is found for April 17, 1876 for the wedding.
B8
She and Hans Jonsen Lillelein are shown with two daughters in the 1891 Census.

Well seems to have used the name Axelen on his emigration record making him a little hard to find. Emigration is 1903-06-12.

Thank you for all the information. Now I have to process it all.
The name "Axelen" shows up as a different spelling as the middle name of a daughter of Iver Olson and Kari Nilsdatter (Nelson) as "Aklesson". I am assuming it is a variation of Axelen. Interesting.

The name probably comes from the farm name.
From Oluf Rygh
v.4, p.55 55. Akslen. Udt. å´kkslé. Dat. å´kkslen.
Bestemt Form af #491;xl f., Skulder, i Ordets overførte Brug om et lavere Fjeld, der slutter sig til et høiere og derfor opfattes som dettes Skulder.
Seems to mean "A mountain that joins a higher one and is therefore perceived as its shoulder." |

Thank you for finding the immigration information. I did read someplace that Iver came over before the rest of the family to check it out and they followed. Must be true!

Based on her age of 27 in her marriage record, I would say that this is the baptism record for Ranne Poulsdatter the wife of Ole Syversen and grandmother of Iver Olsen.
Rannei Paulsen in the Norway, Select Baptisms, 1634-1927 Name: Rannei Paulsen Gender: Female Birth Date: 22 sep 1811 Baptism Date: 29 sep 1811 Baptism Place: Lom,Opland,Norway Father: Poul Syversen Mother: Marit Hansdr FHL Film Number: 125511

On the other side of the family of Iver Olsen is father Ole Arnesen. In the 1865 Census he is married to Marit Pedesdatter. It is likely he married her in 1863. In their marriage record his father is listed as Arne Olsen.
#9
In the Census record his mother is listed as Gunhild Christiansdatter.
1865
1875
1891
In 1875, mother was living with another son Kristen Arnesen
1875
The parents of Kristian are listed as Arne and Gunild Qvamesødegarden.
#69
I would think that Arne Olsen married Gunhild Christiansdatter in 1811.
Arne Olsen in the Norway, Select Marriages, 1660-1926 Name: Arne Olsen Gender: Male Marriage Date: 17 okt 1811 (17 Oct 1811) Marriage Place: Lom ,Opland,Norway Spouse: Gunnild Christensdr FHL Film Number: 125511
Oct 17
I think that this is the baptism of Ole Arnesen in 1827. The original record has Arne Olsen as expected but seems to list the mother as Gunhild Ols.. I think that is likely an error and the mother is Gunhild Christiansdatter.

The 1865 Census lists Gunhild Christiansdatter as having been born about 1789. The only record that fits her in Ancestry.com is this one.
Gunild Christensen in the Norway, Select Baptisms, 1634-1927 Name: Gunild Christensen [Gunild Pedersen] Gender: Female Baptism Date: 12 jul 1789 Baptism Place: Lom ,Opland,Norway Father: Christen Pedersen Mother: Kari Erichsdr FHL Film Number: 125511
