It would appear that Ajer arrived in 1867 and was married to Jorgen and had their first child by 1872. The first we have seen of them is the 1885 Minnesota Census posted by Hopkins above. Have you found records for her in the 1870 Census and for the family in the 1880 Census?

From the 1865 Census you can see that Tov was born in 1813 in Moland, Fryresdal. Not a lot of candidates for a Tov. Here is really the only one I found. A Tow (same as Tov in pronunciation) born, Sept 11, 1813 parents are Thore Saavesen and Asjær Bendixdatter. So your Asjer was named after her grandmother on her fathers side. Typical Norwegian naming practice.

Tow

Very interesting! I also found Tov and Sigrid’s marriage record. They were married 26 Apr 1836 in Fyresdal. Left side. https://media.digitalarkivet.no/en/view/8014/181

When you have taken your family tree back in time to the 1700's, you can often find a tree on Geni.com that fits your family. Here is a tree on Geni.com for Asgjerd Tovsdtr Undeberg. As with most Geni trees the sources are missing but you can use the tree to guide your search for ancestors. This particular one takes you back to 1500 for many of the families.

Geni.com

Also if you have a subscription to Ancestry you will find several trees on there for

Thore Saavesen
1778–1866
BIRTH 21 FEB 1778 • Fyresdal Telemark Norway
DEATH 28 MAY 1866 • Fyresdal Telemark Norway

with some sources listed.

Find the record I posted above for the burial for Thore Saavesen Svalestue and click on

Back to Jørgen Knudsen. In the 1865 Norwegian Census there are only 6 men named Jørgen Knudsen born 1823 to 1828 in the list. Of those five are married so I put them aside. The only one left is living in Holum, Vest-Agder with his brother and his mother Anna Knudsdatter.

1865

Probably this guy.

Jorgen Knudsen
in the Norway, Select Baptisms, 1634-1927
Name: Jorgen Knudsen
Gender: Male
Birth Date: 22 aug 1828
Baptism Date: 5 sep 1828
Baptism Place: , Oyslebo, Vest-Agder, Norway
Father: Knud Jorgensen
Mother: Anna Knudsdr
FHL Film Number: 127308

Confirmed in 1842.

Yeah it looks like you narrowed it down pretty well. Do you think that’s him? (And should I add him)

Another approach.

Here is a Jørgen Knutsen leaving Norway in 1857. He is 32 years old and from Moland.

A possible for this one

Jørgen Knudsen Sandvig left Moland Fyresdal parish in 1857 for America along with his brother Gunder.

#20& 21

Here is Gunder with the same parents as the Jørgen

Definitely do not add him. We are still throwing stuff against the wall to see if it sticks. This one does not look very good to me.

I would like to find some connection to Ajer or some evidence that the man left Norway. The next one down looks better to me as he is from Moland, Telemark and actually has left Norway.

I agree. If he is 32 in 1857, then that would also line up with the 1825 birth date. And he is also from Morand. Very possible.

An issue I have been having with assigning Jørgen Knustsen Sandvig as the husband of Asjer, is that a fairly large number of trees on Ancestry have listed him as the same person as John Knutsen Midbo of Winneabago, Iowa. I do not think that is correct but it has taken me a lot of work to prove to myself that the assumption that John Knutson Midbo is the same person as Jørgen Knutson Sandvig is an incorrect assumption.

The Trees on Ancestry dealing with John Knutson Midbo of Winneabago Iowa are such a mess as to be best avoided. You are likely to run into them sooner or later so be forewarned.

Likely the marriage of the John Knutson Midbo in Nissedal, Telemark

#3

Likely the baptism record of John Knutson Midbo in Nissedal. Telemark, in 1826.
