On Gunder’s transcription the name “Berge” is included. This is also the name of the farm on which Jørgen was born. Just solidifies their relationship even more.
I’m occasionally looking for the 1870 Census but I’ve got no clue why Jorgen isn’t there. Even if the Jorgen who was married in Caledonia was wrong, you’d think he’d have to be in that Census too because he was married only a year after and his residence was in Houston.
How vital is it to have that 1870 census for Jorgen? I’m really stuck because I’ve not been able to find him on that Census in the surrounding area of his supposed residence.
The reason you want to know is to establish his actual residency here by a certain date. Maybe if he isn't here by 1870 census time, that could mean he came from Norway after 1870 but before his marriage date. Or it could mean that the census taker flubbed and didn't get him recorded.
Well we weren’t able to find anything supporting that he came over after the census but before his marriage (1859 is what we have supported because it includes his brother). Honestly I think it could be an error on the census takers’ part. There’s not really a clear-cut answer. I think I will add him and his family because of all the relationships and other support evidence we have found. It’s not a big stretch either because the Climax centennial book mentions the Knutson family living in Houston county in those years.
