Jonette Andreasdatter arrived into New York on September 7, 1868 on the ship named Colorado. Matea Iversen is also on the same ship.

They are passengers number 451 and 452.

It took a little guessing to figure out what the transcriber called her.

The names look clearly to be Jenson but there is this family headed by a Jens Olson which has both a Ludwig and an Otto Johnson living with Jens in Otter Tail County, Minnesota in 1875:

Here is the arrival of the family into Canada. Transcribed with the wrong last name, but some Ancestry user has already corrected the names of the family

Jens Olsen was faddernes to one of the children. Ludwig Johnson was faddernes to one of the children. Does it look like Ole Jenson left with them?

If all goes well and this article mentions the same Jens Olson, it says that he lived here (Otter Tail county) for some time and now lives in Lincoln, Nebraska:

I do not see Ole Jensen in either the arrival list or this list from Norway Heritage.

A long list all numbered 38

Well there is a Family Tree on Ancestry.com with the family. The Tree has Jonette as the wife of Ole Jensen but does not have any further information on her history. However I think that the correct Jonette is the one living on the Tærud farm in Eidsvoll in the 1865 Census with mother Inger Hermandsdatter from Eidsvoll.

Jens Olsen Braten
BIRTH 1815 • Eidsvoll, Norway
DEATH 19 MAY 1885 • Battle Lake, Mn

Ingeborg Marie Larsdotter Aalborg
BIRTH 1817 • Eidsvoll, Norway
DEATH 12 JUN 1885 • Battle Lake, Mn

First child was

Ole Jensen
BIRTH 1847 • Eidsvol, Norway
DEATH 15 FEB 1879 • Otter Tail County, Mn

Married Jonette

I think that Matt has an Ancestry.com subscription so this is for him.

Ancestry Tree

I think that the discussions of people from Notteroy and Hurdal are all likely not applicable to this thread. All of the family come from Eidsvoll and probably lived there a long time.

What proofs are offered for the death dates for Jens Olsen and his wife in the database?

It might be of interest if Jens and Ingeborg each left an estate that had to be settled on the descendants. Even if Ole is gone, often in America grandchildren inherit their missing parents share.

For instance, there was Jens Olson who proved up an original homestead in Ottertail County in 1876 of a 156.17 acres:
MN 5th PM 132N - 040W NE¼NW¼ 19 Otter Tail
MN 5th PM 132N - 040W Lot/Trct 1 19 Otter Tail
MN 5th PM 132N - 040W Lot/Trct 2 19 Otter Tail
MN 5th PM 132N - 040W Lot/Trct 3 19 Otter Tail
MN 5th PM 132N - 040W Lot/Trct 4 18 Otter Tail

If it is the same Jens Olson as who dies in 1885 and who still possessed it in 1885, there would be land which would need to be divided amongst survivors or sold to satisfy survivor's claims.

In the Eidsvoll records of funerals from 1866-1871, there is only one Ole Jensen, a 70 year old husman who died in 1868.

It appears that there are no utflyttedes online for the same time period in Eidsvoll. If the family in Ottertail county is the correct one, it appears that Ole Jensen didn't travel with them in 1868. It is still possible that he travelled to America and settled with his family in the same place, however. Perhaps he left before and acted as a "scout" for the rest, or maybe he came later after finishing up obligations in Eidsvoll or elsewhere.

Playing a hunch that Ole Jensen travelled on the Argonaut on one of the other voyages, did find him. I hope this address works but if not see below He is number 206:

What a great find Jackie. It troubled me more than a little that we had not found Ole on the same ship as his parents and siblings.Your link worked just fine when I tried it. Since I think Matt has a Ancestry.com account, I will post the Ancestry.com transcribed version of the arrival. Geez he even used the Braaten farm name.

Ole Jensen Broaten
in the Canadian Passenger Lists, 1865-1935
Name: Ole Jensen Broaten
Arrival Date: May 1867
Arrival Port: Canada
Vessel: Argonaut

Also the only source for information on the Jens Olsen Braten Family Tree found on Ancestry.com is this one.

World Family Tree Vol. 2, Ed. 1

Which I think is an old Family Tree Maker genealogy program sold by Ancestry. Not to my thinking a real source.

Yeah, family trees quoting other family trees, not necessarily a good thing.

Whew, that’s a lot to digest.
So moving forward scratch all Liverpool ships. Family came via Quebec with Ole a year ahead.
I should get a dna match with Otto and ludvig clans.

Thanks ever so much.
I enjoyed reading the back and forth.
