If all goes well here is the obit of Erik Brekke who was born in Sogn, died age 66 in 1898. It also mentions that he came to Ottertail county 30 years ago from Goodhue county:

Very cool! So it would appear that Bottolf and Kari died between 1875 and 1880, as they are no longer living with Erik Brekke in the 1880 Census?

Perhaps, Bottolf did die before the 1880 Census, but most trees on Ancestry have Kari not dead until 1890. This is likely her in the 1880 Census living with her son Erlend and his rather large family;

Thanks for that! And on that note, I’d like to find out a little bit more of Ole Sjursen Brekke, a son of the Sjur Botolvsen Brekke aforementioned. I believe this is him leaving Norway: https://www.digitalarkivet.no/en/view/8/pe00000000666824. His age is very close, and although he is not from Lærdal, it is pretty close to Aurland. Looking for help on his emigration and immigration if possible.
