Your link worked for me as I have a Ancestry subscription. It will not work for those without a subscription.
However the link does not reach number 14, but rather 101. An Oscar same parents.
For those here is what you see.

Notice that one of the witnesses in the baptism above is named Valborg Steffensdatter. Now the sisters Kari and Siri Steffensdatter who emigrated in 1857 also had a sister Valborg, born 1835. According to a tree on Ancestry she emigradted as well, married Benjamin Bjørn Hackerson, and died in Kendall, Illinois in 1929. |

According to the 1938 obituary for John A Wing, he was survived by a sister i Norway. Did Johannes Akselson Vinterhus have a sister living in Norway in 1938? |

A number of trees on Ancestry contain the spouses John and Guro Wing, and list his place of birth as some version of Sand, Norway, which matches your Johannes Vinterhus. Perhaps the owners of the trees may be able to explain how this information was obtained? |

Thanks so much for all this information and the various links! You people are always so helpful!!!
In the meantime, we have been doing more checking and are now convinced that 1) The Askelsons in Kendall, Illinois, are the same family as the Wings in Lake Prestion, South Dakota, and 2) that John Wing is identical to Johannes Askjellsen Vetrhus, born 2 December 1854 at Vetrhus in Sauda. His parents were Askjell Ingemundson Tjelmeland (1800-78) and Brita Larsdotter Vetrhus (1824-98). Johannes was number 10 of 11 children born to them. At that time, Sauda was a part of Sand Parish, so the parish would be listed as Sand (Sauda sokn). We have also seen a couple of references to John's birthplace as "Sande". It is fairly common to confuse "n" with "u", and Sauda was written "Saude" earlier. Among other clues, we can see that the names of the children were determined by the namesaking tradition, and that they follow the usual rules, though several replacement names are used. First child Bertha is named after John's mother Brita, second daughter Kari (Cora) after Guro's (Julia's) mother Kari, first son Oscar (Archie) after Askjell and second son Nels after Guro's father Nils. Regarding the surname Wing, it is not easy to figure out why they chose this name. We found a source called Wing Family Annals (1939) that claims John and Julia Wing as members of this illustrious family. The entry is as follows: "John Wing, a contractor and builder, living at Lake Preston, South Dakota, was born in England. He married Julia Jordondale, of Millington, Ill., and they have had Bertha, Cora, Archie, Nelson A., Louis J., Mary Josephine, Alma, Ethel and Tavia." How interesting to see this collection of myths! Jordondale must be Hjortedal(en)! Johannes A. Vetrhus was certainly no relation to the Wing Family of America, Inc.! Nice that they want to claim him, however.
When Johannes died in 1938, he was survived by one sister. This must be the youngest sister Mari, b. 1858. We have not found a death date for her. She was married in 1883 to Daniel Oddson Tjøstheim. they lived at Strand in Rogaland in 1910. They had no children. Johannes had an older brother, Ingemund, who lived in Roland, Iowa, and is buried there. The rest of the siblings stayed in Norway. The oldest brother Lars tried to make a living at Vetrhus, but even though Vetrhus at one time was one of the best farms in Sauda, he could not make a go of it. The farm was sold out of the family. It is divided into two farms and one part is now owned by Jostein Lauvås, the other by Olav and Endre Veka. |

We could not find her either! So the ID number would be good to have. Thanks for the article on her! My husband has been searching both for death info and a possible obituary without success. You have been so helpful already that I hate to keep this thread going at your expense. But - if either of you finds anything, please pass it along.
It is not surprising that she lived to be 95 1/2 years old. All of these folks seem to have lived to a ripe old age. Strong genes! |

I would think so. Burial date three days after day of death, and same cemetary as the one mentioned in newspaper death announcement. |

Thanks! I did see that one, but since there was no birth date, I thought you might have found another one. |
