Yes, I have seen that Tree on Ancestry. com It shows him married to Magla Olav Rasmusdatter. However the records on Digitalarkivet show that his name was Ivar Halvorsen Under-Berge.

Here is the 1875 Census with the correct relationship.

Halvor Iversen is married to Berte Kristine Tormodsdatter. And his father and mother are Iver Halvorsen and Magla Olav Rasmusdatter.

1875 Census

Snip from Forsandboka volume 1

Interesting that the d.o.b. for Rasmus is listed as January 9th. The original christning record also reads January 9th as d.o.b..
It says Thormod sold Levik in 1866, and moved to Hundvåg. Later the family moved to Håland in Randaberg. Siblings to Rasmus listed under picture.

This must be his brother emigrating:
#1. Emigration 08 Apr 1881 Gaardbrugersøn Severin Thormodsen Haaland b.1857. To Minnesota. (top, right page)

Although we haven't located Rasmus' emigration record, I think we have enough evidence to say that Rasmus Thormodsen = Rasmus Thompson.
  • Lastname corresponds to Thompson
  • DNA match with his relatives in Forsand, Rogaland
  • D.o.b. matches with death record

Halvar Tormodsen (1779-1876) and Eli Iversdatter (1783-1852) Underberg are my own 3rd great grandparents... I am now surprised that none of my own family members who have joined Ancestry show up as DNA matches.
David's wife should enjoy seeing some of the spectacular sights on the Lysefjord and see the "neighborhood" where the family had their history.
A couple of my personal favorites you should look for - Preikestolen, Kjerag
Another personal favorite is the little abandoned farm there - Håheller - where Eli's father was born.

Good Morning and I did look into Debs closest DNA match I can find on ancestry 63 cM and there is the Berge tree and Halver Ivarson U-Berge 1804-1892 is on that tree.
So that is very likely the link. So I am excited to enter names in the tree. This group is amazing and I get the challenge is fun. I just found out who my real grandfather was Now I will go back to that next. Lydal40 should I use the names listed above for her tree and where exactly does Rasmus Thompson/ Tormodsen fit in. Im good up to him on the tree.

Here is a start on a tree for you. I will build on that sometime today. With Norwegian names you need to deal with the farm names that many people have. Farm names can change when people move from farm to farm so that complicate things a bit. I usually pick one. For Ancestry I use one first name and two last names. Example Tormod first name and Halvorsen Gjesteland last name. Also for older names spelling can vary sometimes a lot from source to source.

For the Tree older than Tormod Halvorsen 1817 I am using the Tree from Geni.com. It seems reliable in that it uses the Bygdebok for the area as a source. The Bygdebok is

Sirdalsboka 1, Gard og Ætt side 245

I just recently tracked down my grandfather to a military soldier that was in Hawaii before Pearl Harbor.
My grandmother was 16 years old and my Mom died never knowing who her dad was. I found all this 5 weeks ago when the
I first was Shelter in place. The Norway link was most amazing as the work was mostly done and I wont be surprised that many folks have seen this?
Ragnhild I Larson 1892- 1984 was my Great Grandmother.

Is there a question hidden in this post? If you are on a new search, I would suggest you delete this latest post, and start a new topic, to keep this new search separated from the search for Rasmus Thompson.

Ragnhild Ingeborg Larson

BIRTH 23 DEC 1892 • vassanda, Naglum, Västra Götaland, Sweden
DEATH 25 FEB 1984 • Calgary, Alberta, Canada

No reason to be sorry. I just thought you had a new query going...
Few ppl here can read your ancestry-link, so it's hard to guess what the link can contain...
