I am trying to confirm Munkestoe is a farm in Oyestad parish, and if it is mentioned in the Oyestad bydgeboker. Anne Elisabeth (b.1770-71) is found in the Oyestad church books as being at Munkestoe when confirmed in 1786. She married Erich Christiansen at Nedenes farm on 20 Sept 1788. I am trying to find the baptismal records of Anne Elisabeth so I can further pursue her ancestry. My search to find births in Oyestad parish records has been unsuccessful for both Erich and Anne Elisabeth. |

Oops - need to add "Boisdatter" after Anne Elisabeth in my original post.

Munkestø was a subfarm of Rød (sometimes written Røed) farm in Øyestad. |

Thanks All.
The farms look like they are on an island. Would that put them in a sub parish of Oyestad by any chance? Is Ostenboe farm in that vincinity? I have come across that farm, and Rod farm for other ancestors. |

I believe both Østensbu and Rød with Munkestø belonged to Øyestad subparish of Øyestad parish.
If you don't find Anne Elisabeth's baptism in Øyestad subparish you could try to widen the search. Even if she lived at Munkestø at the time of her confirmation, she wasn't necessarily born there. |

No, actually not. Both Munkestø and Nedenes are on mainland. The water dividing them and the Øyestad church is the outlet of a river. |

Here is the Ancestry record for the marriage. Fathers named is spelled slightly different in this record.
Ane Boyesdr in the Norway, Select Marriages, 1660-1926 Name: Ane Boyesdr Gender: Female Marriage Date: 20 sep 1788 Marriage Place: Oyestad,Aust-Agder,Norway Spouse: Erich Christensen FHL Film Number: 123648

Here is a baptism record for maybe the child named ?
Boyesen in the Norway, Select Baptisms, 1634-1927 Name: Boyesen Gender: Male Birth Date: 3 mai 1773 (3 May 1773) Baptism Date: 7 mai 1773 (7 May 1773) Baptism Place: , Oyestad, Aust-Agder, Norway Father: Boye Sorensen Mother: Anne Jacobsdr FHL Film Number: 123648
The original record is on the left page near the bottom. Not an easy read.

This is likely the marriage of the parents. Boye is unusual enough that I do not get many hits on the name in Aust-Agder.
Boje Sorensen in the Norway, Select Marriages, 1660-1926 Name: Boje Sorensen Gender: Male Marriage Date: 26 feb 1764 Marriage Place: Tromøy, Aust-Agder, Norway Spouse: Anna Jacobsdatter FHL Film Number: 123695
First record under 1764.

And probably another child of Boye and Anne in 1766.
Jacob Bojesen in the Norway, Select Baptisms, 1634-1927Name: Jacob Bojesen Gender: Male Baptism Date: 27 mar 1766 Baptism Place: Tromøy, Aust-Agder, Norway Father: Boje Sorensen Gisoen Mother: Anne Jacobsdatter FHL Film Number: 123695 Reference ID: Book 1

The same pair had a son Søren for baptism on the first sunday of Advent in 1775. (Church year 1776). In both this and the 1773 baptism the farm looks like Strømen.

Here is the Ancestry record for Søren
Soren Boje in the Norway, Select Baptisms, 1634-1927 Name: Soren Boje Gender: Male Baptism Date: 10 des 1775 (10 Dec 1775) Baptism Place: , Oyestad , Aust-Agder, Norway Father: Boje Sorensen Mother: Anne Jacobsdr FHL Film Number: 123648
The farm for Jacob is Gjesøen. Different than Strømen for Ane and Søren.
Although it is hard to imagine that there are two Boye Sørenesn married to Anne Jacobsdatter in this small region at the same time.
Also the names of the children seem to fit the Norwegian naming pattern well. Boys named Søren and Jacob.

I see the error of my ways. I should have concentrated on finding Boye/Boies/Boje in the parish records rather than Anne Elisabeth. I realized it was a rare name, but didn't take advantage of it. I did search in the same marriage record compilation for Boie, but perhaps didn't use enough variations of the name. It is likely Boje Sorensen and Anne Jacobsdatter are the correct parents. Besides the presumed naming of Anne Elisabeth after Anne Jacobsdatter, the godparents of two of Anne Elisabeth's chidren (both named Ane Sophie) included Johan Jacobsen, perhaps a brother of Anne. Still a mystery of why Anne Elisabeth's baptism cannot be found, when two of her brothers could be found. Same problem finding Erich Christensen bearing such a common name. Thanks all for the help. |
