Rebuilding information on Tosten here (if the children and wife are as linked to in FAG), His marriage in Minnesota:
OTTER TAIL C-621 06/07/1883 MOE, TOSTEN O HANSON, INGEBORG

His children were all born in Minnesota. He is usually found with the name Tom or variants thereof.

Link to him and family in 1895 Minnesota census:
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MQDY-XH5

In the 1895 census he says that he as lived in Minnesota for 20 years.

1885 census he lives at Norwegian Grove, Ottertail County, Minnesota and in the houshold is a 60+ year old woman named Gjyre G. Moe (indexed as Giyn):
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MQXK-D75

In the 1880 census also in Norwegian Grove he lives with an Axnes family with two other people named Moe:
Julia Moe servant Female 18 Norway

In the actual record, Torsten's birthplace is given as "Hardangar" and his mother's name is more correctly transcribed as Juri Gjermundsdtr.

There is a funeral for a Gyri Gjermundsdatter Mo member of the North Immanuel Congregation in 1896. She is aged 72 and died 12 Jan 1896 housed with M. Axnes

Torstein in Kvam
1. matching birth date
2. Kvam( Vikoy) birthplace is part of Hardangar
3. matching parents names
4. arrival date 1875 close (1895 Minnesota census 20 years in Minnesota, 1900 census 1878)

I guess I'd wonder why the family thinks he's a guy from Selbu?

Family linked on Find a Grave is correct from personal knowledge of myself and my cousins.

Amazing you found all this with all the different spellings! Thank you! Looks like KVAM it is.

Any clue about the Mikkel Axness connection? Buried at North Immanual, Norwegian Grove along with GURI AXNESS 1824-12 Jan 1896.
Could the connection be with Mikkel's wife - Herborg born 12 July 1845 (some Ancestry trees show her name as MOE or Ovre Byrkjeland - born at our KVAM - not reliable source, I know, but maybe a clue to check)

So Herborg Nilsdatter and Tosten Oleson are half-siblings. Same mother Gyri Gjermundsdatter but different fathers.

Probably the emigration of Herborg in 1869 from Bergen.

I am leaning toward Nr. 42 since he and his parents are found on Aksnæs øvre in the 1865 Census.

Marriage of Ole Olsen and Britha Berthelsdatter in 1829. Farm for Ole is Øvre Axnæss.
