First, I want to thank all of you who have spent so much time and effort to try to help a complete stranger. Without your help there would forever have been a blank spot that ended with Carrie Nicholson in the pedigree charts of our children and grandchildren.

I have read all the posts and comments and realize that there is not one "Carrie" that is so obviously the correct person that no further looking is required.

Right now, I would like for someone, of several "someones" to posit the most likely "Carrie" to fill the voids in our charts.

I would like to have the most likely "Carrie" described in terms of:

Her birth name,
Her birth and/or baptism date,
Her place of birth,
Her parents names,
Her parents dates of birth,
Where her parents lived,
The date of marriage of her parents,
Grandparents ... if possible.

Again ... thank you for all you have done.

I strongly believe the most likely candidate is Kaja Sophie Michaelsen Torkildsen, born 29 June 1859 in Vestby, Akershus by parents tanner Michael Torkildsen and his wife Marie Andersdatter.
Marie died between 1859 and 1865 and Michael died 01 Oct 1885.
When Michael dies, records shows that he has a daughter in America. This daughter is not named, but it must be Kaja Sophie, because his other daughter lives in Oslo.

The only "problem" is that Kaja Sophie has been impossible to locate in the norwegian emigration records, and US/Canadian immigration records...

Your original purpose was to fill out a generational chart for your son. You could fill in the entries for Carrie with pencil and leave the pen for the other more determined lines.

As it is Kaia Sophie seems to be the best that we have found. Compared to your original information:
Carrie Sophie Nikkelsen / Kaia Sophie Mickaelsdatter
29 June 1859 / 29 June 1859
born Christiania / born Vestby, Akershus, Norway
came to US 1881 but for certain by 1885 / living in America
married in US in 1885 / married by 1885

All the other candidates match name, approximate dates of action in a patchwork sort of way, of the life of Carrie Sophie but Kaia Sophie is the only one with exact match to birthdate....

Here is estate work on Svend Andersen Raaer and Helge Andersen Raaer, uncles of Kaia Sophie Mickaelsdatter, beginning at the bottom of the right hand page and following through at least the next two pages. Svend was married but may only have had foster children (his widow Helene was still living in 1900) and Helge was called a "capitalist" in the 1875 census but apparently not married nor had children:
SAO, Follo sorenskriveri, H/Hd/L0005: Skifteforhandlingsprotokoll, 1886-1894, p. 181b-182a

I don't see that all surviving relatives are mentioned but a proclamation is mentioned so perhaps they advertised for all fraverende arving (scattered survivors)?

Thank you for all your help. I am going to go with Kaja Sophie Michaelsdatter and the information supporting the fact that she is really the missing "Carrie Nichoson."
