Dear Listers!
Another challenge is waiting for you today:
Øllegaard Larsdotter Urness, daughter and youngest child born to Lars Pederson Urness in Hafslo (1811-1862) and his 1st wife Ingeleiv Olsdotter Lysne from Lærdal (1811-1847), was born at the Urness farm in Hafslo Dec. 20, 1846, lost her mother shortly after birth and was raised by neighbors in Hafslo.
In 1866 Øllegaard emigrated to Chicago, IL where in 1870 she was a housekeeper for her brother Dr. O(le) L(arson) Urness (1844-1907). Ole subsequently married and changed his name to Edward Ernest and lived in Chicago, IL until 1878 when he moved to Albert Lea, Freeborn Co., MN. Øllegaard started using the name Julia Ernest and sponsored at least two of her brother's children in Chicago, IL.
Until recently I had no idea what happened to Øllegaard/Julia, but Nov. 10, 1878 she shows up as a sponsor Øllegaard Larson to a child christened in McFarland, Dane Co., WI, a daughter of Jørgen Knutson and Anna Olson, both originating from the same neighborhood in Norway as Øllegaard:

It seems like Øllegaard/Julia left Chicago, IL at the same time as her brother, and maybe McFarland, WI was just a stop on the way to Albert Lea, MN - I don't know, and now I hope that someone can help me find out what became of this girl?
Thanks a million in advance for any suggestions!
Very sincerely yours, |
