I am looking for data on the mother of Øystein Veaasen - and his parents marriage date and place. It could be in Nord Gaustad, Tinn, Telemark.

Øystein Olson Veaasen was bapt 7 July 1798 Klontieg u Rollag, Mael, Tinn, Telemark. On the 1801 census he is age 3.

Stranderud  451-452 Øystein's parents are Ola Halvorsson Stranderud Klontieg N Strand born abt 1754 - 1816 and Birgit Øysteinsdatter  born abt 1757   They were married 30 Nov 1784

I am looking for data on Birgit Ø's parents - their marriage - and Birgit's birth date and place.

One couple I checked out are at Nord Gaustad - pg 565
Truls Gjermundson and Gunne Nilsdatter - had 8 children
One was Anne Trulsdatter who married Øystein Maarheim and had two children - Ole Øysteinson and Bergit Øysteinsdatter.

I did not find them at Maarheim.
At Nord Maarheim pg 327 - there is a listing of an Øystein Olson born 1723 - no other data.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Confirmation at Tinn 1776

# 19 Birgithe Østensdtr Tollefsjord
# 36 Birgithe Østensdtr Marum

Both 18 https://www.digitalarkivet.no/kb20061211340221

Marum might be the same as Maarheim.

The baptism record for this child gives some more information that likely applies to the Østen Olsen above.

Oddly enough the only marriage I could find for Anne Truolsdatter was one in 1758 with a Jon Olsen. Could there be a mistake and the groom is really Øystein Olsen Maarheim?

Nr. 14

But a close look at the original record shows the bride is named Gurine Trulsdatter?

Ancestry has it transcribed as Gurine Trulsdatter which I think is probably correct

Unfortunately, there seems to be a lacuna in the church books. In 1757, the baptisms at Tinn start on the second Sunday after Trinity Sunday, i.e., well into June. So there is ample time for the other Birgit Østensdatter to have been born and baptized earlier in the year.

Looking through the lists of witnesses at the baptisms for Ola Halvorsen and Bergit Østensdatter three children Anne, Halvor and Østen

https://www.digitalarkivet.no/view/255/pd00000008515666
https://www.digitalarkivet.no/view/255/pd00000008516813
https://www.digitalarkivet.no/view/255/pd00000008520291

one finds exactly one witness with an Østen-patronymic, namely Ole Østensen at the first baptism, a possible indication that Birgit Østensdatter had only one sibling, and that he was named Ole. This points towards the Birgit from Maarheim.

as just noted by Torel - the importance of checking out the baptismal sponsors.

I went back to Anton's data on Bergit's baptism in 1757 - and the list of sponsors.  I checked the Tinn Soga II - Nord Marheim  pg 327 and there are 3 family members that I found to be listed that were sponsors at the baptism of Anne - Jon Olson and Halvor Olson Mauram and Bergit Torjersdatter Maurum (wife of Jon Olson) Their younger brother is listed as 7. Øystein 1723

I believe this may help confirm that this Øystein is who I have been searching for. Where he and his family went from here is not known.

Thank you very much for researching all of the data on this family. I checked further on the church records that were posted and find that one of Anne Trulsdatter's sisters was also a sponsor at one of the births. So we have the correct family.

After Anne's death, and with 3 small children, I assume that Øystein Olsen Maurum remarried. Could you check to see if there is a marriage after 1761? That may lead us to the farm where he would be living with his children.

Bergit's brother may have been confirmed the same year she was. The column to the left has number 13. Ole Østensen Marum  19.

The marriage date for the parents would be before 1757. This film does not have earlier marriages.
