There is a death of a Pernille Mikkelson in Glendon, Alberta in 1924 cert #1521. Pernille is named next of kin in the following two service records.

And you are probably already aware of Alfred's WWI service:
https://recherche-collection-search.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/home/record?app=pffww&IdNumber=189861&q=alfred%20mikkelson

WWi service record of brother Peder Mickalson
https://recherche-collection-search.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/home/record?app=pffww&IdNumber=191734

A Lina Michelson of Cardston marries in Alberta #198F before 1919
A Johanna Mikkelson of Vegreville marries in Alberta #425 Q before 1919

A possible for Pernille leaving US for Canada in 1911:
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:68SN-HD52

A possible Alfred Mikkelson leaving US for Canada in 1911:
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:68SN-HD5V

A possible Andrew Mickelson leaving US for Canada in 1911:
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:68SJ-MBJ1

A possible Erik Mikkelsen leaving US for Canada in 1911:
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:68SJ-MBJB

Alfred Mikkelson in 1931 Canadian census:
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:65L4-CQDK

Probably Pernille indexed as Damille (and also attached to a family tree calling her Inger Tammasdtr Langedrag) living with Thorvald and Olena Sather in 1916 census:
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KM5H-Z2R

Thorvald Sather family in 1926 Canadian census:
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QPRQ-J4CY

Thorvald Sather's death record in British Columbia identifies his wife as Olena Prenilla Mikkelson, making a very good possible:
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FLR2-ZD4

Olena Sather in FAG:
https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/130882781/olena-sather

Olena Mekkelson and Thorwald Sather married in Alberta 1914 cert# 2769R

Gjerlaugsbakken on an online map. You can zoom out to see where it is, and also change from map to aerial photo.

I believe the above posts document the emigration of Alfred and all of his siblings except the twins Marta and Pauline. It turns out they both died in infancy: 20 & 21

On the map if you zoom out far enough you will see Hamar. Hamar was given as the origin in the two WWi soldier's records.

Hi Tore, What is the significance of the Gjerlaugsbakken? Is this the homestead where my ancestors once lived, or do they still live there? I was able to determine that Gjerlaugbakken means Gjerlaug Hill where Gjerlaug is a family name.

Gjerlaugsbakken is where the family lived for some time prior to their departure. I have seen no information that they ever owned the place, nor that their relatives live there now.

Gjerlaugsbakken was originally part of the farm Gjerlaug/Gjerlu (about one km further south). You can see from the map that the terrain slopes at Gjerlaugbakken, and you are right that it translates to (the) Gjerlaug hill. On the other hand, Gjerlaug is no more of a family name than Gerlaugsbakken. Trey are both farm names that (like all other Norwegian farm names) could be used as family names by the people who lived or had been living there.
