Maren marriage : https://www.digitalarkivet.no/kb20070831640352 Right side Jan 6 group #2. What are the residence details of Olle and Maren ? Where are these places located ? Same questions for this couple : https://www.digitalarkivet.no/kb20070831640325 #2 on the right. This one is confusing in that the year listed on the left page is 1709. preceeding pages go back from 1709. Succeeding pages go on from 1731. Where is the information that indicates 1731 is our year ? In any event assuming 1731 is correct, then looking for the same residence detail as the previous record. |

I can do no better than posting the Sulasoga-transcription of the first wedding record. -- With the exception that I suggest that Handsberget should rather be Sandsberget, which is located in present-day Ålesund, right by Storenørve and less than a kilometer from Lillenørve. (Map.)
There is also an engagement record from 1735. It doesn't yield very much more information, except that one of the witnesses resided at Storenørve.
Maren must be the "Margrethe" mentioned in her father Lars' probate records.. |

I suggest to resolve the 1709/1731-dilemma in the second record by comparing the handwriting. The record for Torbiørn and Synneve seems to have been written by the same hand as the records on the following pages.
The Sulasoga-people seem to have thought likewise in their transcription, which looks good as far as I can judge, except that they omit part of the prospective bride's residence, which they render as Qvalsteen, whereas a full reading yields Qvalsteen paa Hellingsøen, or Kvalstein på Ellingsøya in modern language. Note that I made this name clickable, and that Kvalstein is located just a few hundred meters west of Myklebust.
Also note that this is their engagement record, and that they were married in 1733.
It is hard to say, though, whether this Synneve Larsdatter is the daughter of Lars Jetmundsen Godøy or Lars Knudsen Godøy. They both had daughters named Synnøve. The bygdebook for Borgund and Giske claims she was Lars Knudsen's daughter. (Clipping). (I have tried to look for your other people as well in these volumes, but they tend to say very little about peoiple who didn't own the land they worked on.)

This brings up another interesting issue. Maren is older than Synneve as I followed the birth records through you cited - born in 1708. So where is she in this probate record - too young to be married. She does appear in the records as cited in another post about her. This record for Martha : https://www.digitalarkivet.no/kb20070831640414 third down on left may be Margrethe - 10 years old. I've been looking for more records about her but not finding them yet. |
