I had posted looking for Edvard Jensen thought to be born April 11 1871 in Kristiansund. I have found him and he is actually Edvard Olufsen born April 11 1870 Tingvoll. His baptism lists mom Gurianna Andersdatter from Furset and father Oluf Jonsen of Kristiansund. I found his confirmation and lists father as Oluf Johansen. I saw a document that said Oluf was born around 1840 and I can't find him anywhere, does anyone have any suggestions ? |

Edvard's's baptism records (#29 and #29) and confirmation record (#27) give very little information about the father. The parents were not married, and the father is just matros, ungkar (sailor, bachelor) Oluf Johnsen/Jonsen from Kristiansund. No age or other info given. Do you recall where you found Oluf's birth year of 1840? |

Anton I believe I got Oluf birth from site histreg.no When you look at Edvard's baptism the name Jon Jonsen appears. I was wandering if he could have been Oluf's dad. I did find the death for Jon Jonsen June 28th 1874 age 66 years Tingvoll it also listed him from Kristiansund. Again I can't find anything. |

Actually, there are two Jonsens in the faddere of Edvard, Jon and Engebret. Jonsen is a common patronymic so they may or may not be related but good to keep all the names of faddere for any clue.
Probably the brothers Jonsen in the 1875 census: https://www.digitalarkivet.no/en/census/person/pf01052351006754 |

Thank you for the help and a new lead to follow. Maybe Oluf, John and Engebret are all brothers. |

Anton I went and looked in Hedmark parish Tolga and found the births of Engebret and Jon. Different parents so maybe cousins, maybe they were just friends with Oluf Jonsen. Maybe the Jon Jonsen from Kristiansund who died June 9th 1874 Tingvoll is the actual link to Oluf. Thanks for the help. |

Diane, it would be a big help in these searches if you would post a link to what you have found. Especially the birth records of Engebret and Jon. |

Anton I don't know how to post a link. I actually go to Parish and read records until I find what I'm looking for. Engebret Born Feb 11th 1825 Parish Tolga Hedmark line 11
John August 19 1830 parish Tolga Hedmark line 22
I did find Oluf Jonsen age 41 departing Trondheim on April 9th 1879 aboard ship Dampskib Domino going to Red Wing, Minnesota. It said his residence was Ofredal which I think might be Vestland.

If you are looking at the parish registers using the Digitalarkivet, there is a line of icons across the top. If you hit the one that looks like a clipboard with an arrow sticking into, or a person with an arrow sticking in it, it will copy the identifying information from that particular page along with the actual web address to your computer's clipboard, which you can then paste into your response. |

My way of referencing link in Norwegian parish records is to use the English language page. Top row right see either Norsk or English. Use English In the row above References click on the links emoji; In the section below References copy the Quick Link and post it here.

Anton if he was in Sweden then I wouldn't think this Oluf is my guy. Baptism record did say from Kristiansund. I'm running out of ideas. At least we finally found Edvard. Thanks for all the help. |
