Hi! am trying to find out about an ancestor who emigrated to the U.S. I got his name and all but i cant find the passenger list and ship he sailed with. He left Bergen in 1886 05-04, i've tried to search for what ships that left in that time period but can't find something that matches. It was written that he left with allan line.

Any suggestions of what ship he could have left with from bergen?

Was it also common to change ship in hull, liverpool etc?

fe

You are probably going to get better results if you share more information. Such as his name.

Here is a list of ships leaving various Norwegian ports including Bergen

I usually start a search such as yours by finding the emigration record in DA . The DA website shows 1,946 passengers left Bergen in 1886. Have you entered his name in this site and found his emigration record.

Click on the DA link below. You can add his name in the section called Individual Information and post the information you find.

Thanks for all the replys:)

I've found out his name and we're the ship went. He arrived in halifax Nova scotia.

I was wondering if anyone knows how immigrants took their way from there to the U.S? Did they change ships, or went by foot? I can't find anything regarding passenger list from ships going from canada to U.S

His name was Michael michaelsen, born i 1869 and immigrated and arrived to the U.S in 1886. Have checked every immigration records from the "BIG" ports were ships arrived, but still nothing.

Any suggestions etc?:)

Thanks

Yes it is! Thank you so much:))!

But again. I've found out that he arrived in Halifax with a ship from liverpool 1886-05-22.

I've searched many places but cant find his immigration records IN to the U.S

II believe there must be some documentation when he entered the U.S by port or by foot. Since he came by ship to halifax iv assuming that there maybe be some corresponding ship that went to the U.S? Any suggestions or idea of where i can find ships manifest with ships departing canada to U.S? Or maybe immigration records from one of the ports he arrived in? What was the ports many mostly arrived to at that time? Any ideas?

Thanks

The place I usually look for the type of information you are seeking is this data base on Ancestry.com. But as you can see the site does not have records before 1895. The records before that are very spotty.
