I am looking for ancestors and origin for my great-great-grandmother Carrie (Caroline) Burgen (Borgen) Birth (from death certificate) was July 2, 1858, in Norway Lived in the Chicago area and married a H. Victor Hebert from Quebec (2 AUG 1884). Death certificate listed father as Thomas Borgan. Census states she arrived about 1872. Before her marriage Chicago census lists her occupation as servant.

Thanks!

Kim

I also thought she was a good candidate, but she married in 1879 and it looks like they never emigrated:

Original poster are you able to give us a link to the 1880 census for your Carrie. Using familysearch the only one I could find was a Carrie Borg who was born in Indiana to Swedish parents:

The Church Baptism/Birth record is interesting, since her death certificate lists her birth as July 2. I am having trouble navigating the Norwegian documents.

The baptism above was the most promising we could find with the data you have given us, but later Norwegian records prove it cannot be her. Do you any other small pieces of information, anyhing could be helpful. Is there a mother's name also on Carrie's death certificate?

Edit: Postings crossed each other, I was referring to the baptism in Modum. Don't American death certificates often list mothers as well?

FYI I have the following documents attached to Carrie in my Ancestry tree:

1880 census
1900 census (lists Sweden as place of birth, but that is a miscommunication since her household members are accurate.)
1910 census (shows Norway as birthplace)
marriage record in 1884 says age 25 yrs.
death certificate listing father as Thomas Borgen.

Would love to find her origin city and information on her father.

Thanks!

Her death certificate lists mother as unknown. I know that the marriage to Hector/Victor Hebert is correct, due to DNA matches in his lineage.

Also, Hebert eventually morphed into Herbert and is sometimes transcribed as Habert in documents.
