A reflection on first names: In the original post Caroline is added in parenteses after the name Carrie; is this supported by sources? I am aware that Carrie is usually short for Caroline/Carolyn in English, and this name does exist also in Norway, but Kari/Karen is/was much more common, and I have seen many Norwegian Karis ending up as Carries in America.

The father's name Thomas could also be something else. Meeting people in California in the eighties I sometimes kept things simple and called myself Tom rather Tore, which is my actual name.

Which means that this emigration record may be of interest. (Your own Ancestry tree contains a link to an Ancestry version of this record -- that is how I found it.) This Kari is listed right after someone who was probably her brother.

This Kari was born in 1858, but in April rather than July, with a baptism in May: Link. I wouldn't conclude yet that this is your ancestor, unless there is some particular, significant reason why you have the record in your tree.

Lars T Borgen on 23 Oct 1899 donated 2 acres of land for the Lom Lutheran Church lot and cemetery.

This story about Lars T Borgen from volume I of the Nelson County (ND) History says he settled first in Wisconsin near Viroqua in Vernon county:
https://digitalhorizonsonline.org/digital/collection/ndsl-books/id/89928/rec/1

Also Lars' wife Sigrid had a sister who went to Chicago and was never heard from again!

Digitalarkivet only has a transcribed version of Kari's emigration record, while it appears that Ancestry also has the original document. I have a cheaper Ancestry membership version that doesn't give access to this. Could someone with a fuller membership check the link to Norway, Emigration Records, 1867-1960 here to see if Kari's companion from Borgen (listed right before/above her) was in fact called Hans, or whether it could be something else?

If you are referring to the Emigration Record it is given in the transcribed record I posted above as

Lars Thorsen Borgen

And when I look at the original that looks likely as correct

Thank you, that is what I suspected. Here is what Digitalarkivet says; the questionnow is whether one transcription is wrong, or wether different documents are being transcribed.

The crucial question is wether the transcribed document you see agrees with the version posted at Digitalarkivet regarding all other facts about Kari's companion. Is the Lars you see 27 years old?

Thanks, so Lars, 27 years old, was Kari's trvaelling companion, and Hans is likely a transcription error.

Here is a clipping from Lom Bygdebok. Lom-Kari's (the Kari from Lom's) brother Lars emigrated in 1868 and ended up in North Dakota in 1888 (see box), but he was probably home and tokk sister Kari with him back in 1874. Now the question is wether Kari can be traced from where Lars was staying in 1874 and to where Carrie was married ten years later.

Hmm, that was perhaps too quick. She had two brothers Lars; the older one ended up in ND, while the age in 1874 indicates that it was the younger one who took Kari to America.
