I have been able to track a Jon Hendrickson to Hjerpliden in Sweden and his father is Hendrick Thomasson b 1763 in Norway. There is one record from the Dalby kyrkoarkiv, Värmland, Sweden (1821-1825) that lists Lehmoinen as a family name. Would anybody have any research advice on how I might be able to start searching for his family in Norway without any other information?

Hendrick had a son named Per b 1795 married to Karin Bertilsdotter b 1800 that left Hjerpliden and moved back to Norway. Maybe a family connection could be made from that information?

The records on Jon born about 1800 on Ancestry are very slim and do not show any time he lived in Norway.

The Geni.com site lists him as born 1763 in Sweden but has a link to his birth in 1763 in Åsnes, Hedmark.

Surname Lehmoinen - Meaning and Origin

https://www.igenea.com/en/surnames/l/lehmoinen

https://sodabreadcrumbs.blogspot.com/2015/08/from-dna-start-to-finnish.html

It turns out that Lehmoinen is a family name, and specifically it is a Finnish family name. Records in the archives for this family go back to the 1430's! The family turns out to be part of a group known as the Forest Finns.

Thank you very much for all your help AntonH. The records you have found match the Jon Hendricksson that I have been researching.

The 1860 census record from Racine County, Wisconsin might match a citizenship record for Jon Hendricksson (birth year 1800) also in Racine County, Wisconsin. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:6N7L-15SS?lang=en The year of arrival lists 1853 which matches this link https://sok.riksarkivet.se/bildvisning/C0039850_00031#?c=&m=&s=&cv=30&xywh=3160%2C3622%2C3458%2C2295
