Hello,

My name is Oak Lexvold, I'm the sixth generation of my family in Minnesota, USA. Thanks to family records and oral tradition, we know that my ancestor Anders Severson Lexvold immigrated from Norway by way of Quebec in 1866, and eventually settled in Goodhue County, Minnesota. Previous posts have confidently located records of Anders/Andrew/Arne as being born in Norway on Nov. 22. 1829 to parents Syver Olsen and Tarand Olsdatter Quammen.

Here is a link to a previous thread that has done much of that work:
https://www.norwayheritage.com/snitz/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=5311&whichpage=5

However, this thread is ten years old, and there was much conjecture on the geneological origins of the Lexvold name. It was suggested that Lexvold/Lekvold/Leksvol family farms can be found in Nord-Trøndelag, or perhaps Ål. One user even claimed that "Lexvold is a very old name and it comes from mans name Leikr and vold means a kind of embankment.
In 1310 the name was written Leicksuall."

Please, any confirmation or information would be most helpful. I want to know where my family originates, and why we are named so. Ideally, I will eventually be able to confidently point to our origins and someday visit. Please let me know if you have any questions.

A quick review of the old 6 page discussion leaves one with many questions about the ancestry of the Anders Syverson Lexvold buried in Goodhue County. Your link above seems to be the person who we need to examine to insure we have the family ancestry correct

Much of this mess was caused by a slexvold who introduced on page 4 into this thread a link to the FAG of the person also posted above. JaneC did a good job determining who that person and his family were but the Kåre introduced more confusion by suggesting that a Severson Lexvold from Ål, Buskerud might be the right candidate. I think Jane C has the right person.

So to work on the Anders Severson Lexvold start at the top of page four.

This appears to be the person with his family in the 1875 Minnesota Census.

The Tree from Family Search link above seems to support the conclusion of JaneC from 6 page search and contradicts the conclusion of Kåre of the fellow from Ål, Buskerud. I think if we can clear that up we will have the truth of who is the Andrew Severson Lexvold of Goodhue County.

This looks like the family in the 1865 Census from Malvik, Sør-Trøndelag.

Some of my conclusions are that the Trøndelag family is the correct family and the family from Ål family is not the correct family.

Anders Seversen was married to Bertine Holgersdatter who died in 1864.

And Anders (now Andrew) married Gunhild Thompson in 1868 shortly after he arrived with his children

Here is the marriage of the man who I believe is the same man as the Anders Severson Lexvold from your FAG post. Why he is using the last name of Lexvold is unclear to me but probably he or is family was connected in some fashion to a Lexold farm. of Stjørdal, Nord-Trøndelag.

On page 4 Jane C introduced the data on the emigration of the widower Anders Sivertsen Rognaas.

So even here Anders did not use the farm name Lexvold? Strange?

Departing Trondheim 05 May 1866
on the bark Neptunus <----- (they arrived Quebec on the Fido)
Arriving Quebec 09 June 1866
Anders Sivertsen Rognaas age 35
Martha Andersdatter Rognaas 10
Anna Andersdatter Rognaas 8
Sigri Andersdatter 5
Sivert Andersen Rognaas 4

As far as the name Lexvold, I did not find a Lexvold in Trondheim region but I do see that the family was living at Voldaas in the 1865 Census.

Perhaps someone with more knowledge of the farm names in the Malvik, Strinda part of Sør-Trøndelag can find where the family used the Lexvold name in America.

There is a Lekvold in Selbu Sør-Trøndelag

Here is a link to the family of Familie: Hemming SIVERTSEN / Guru OLSDATTER (F13915). there is no mention of Lexvold or even Void, but it is well put together and covers the likely ancestors of Andrew Severtson Lexssvold. However it does not reach him but stops at

Two pages from Malvik bygdebok:

https://ibb.co/2m6sCt5

https://ibb.co/VY5Cr18k

Avcording to this, Rognås and Voldås are different names for the same farm. No mention of Leksvold or similar, though.

Going back to the work JaneC did, she noted the farm Lekvold in Selbu parish. There are 124 hits for Lekvold from DA but I have not found a connection.

Also the family used the farm name Mahla as well. The only Mahla I found in DA is from Telemark?

From a Tree on Ancestry

Hemming Sivertsen Mahla
1826–1868
BIRTH DECEMBER 10, 1826 • Stjordal, Norway
DEATH ABOUT 1868 • North America Immigrated in 1861 on Fido via, Quebec, Canada
