Looking on information on a Omun Simonson who imigrated to the States in 1857 from Norway. I am looking for any information that might help locate were he was born in Norway, parents and more specific date on when and on what ship he traveled. Information that I have so far is the following: He was born about 1837 and died 6/12/1918. He settled in Leland, IL where he was in the dry goods business. He married Rachel Olsen on 2/8/1862 in LaSalle Cty (Leland Area).
He had a brother Halvor who move to the LeLand area around 1881, he was a cooper. His wife was Marie.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

You need to get as much information on him in the States as possible to help in the search in Norway. A copy of his death certificate, naturalization papers, if he married in the States a copy of his marriage license. When was he born? If before 1801 there is a possibility of finding him in the 1801 census for Norway.

The Ilinois death index is on line and you can order a death certificate here.

I did find Omun listed. The death certificate should give you the names of his parents.
They also have marriage records which could also give you more information.

I think I found the family on the LDS site
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp
Type Simon Omundson for the father
select Norway for the country
and enter C429042 in the batch number
you should get 5 people including Ommund with Father: Simon OMUNDSEN Mother: Guro HELJESDR all baptised in Fjelberg, Hordaland, Norway.
I've searched the census and can't find them.

There is a very strong possibility that this is his brother's family. The information that I have is from the 1900 US Census which show birth year for Halvor-1846, Marie-1850, Simon-1878 & Hilda-1879. Imigrated 1881. Would be interested source of informaiton and if there maybe some explaniation for the differences.
